Joe B Hall Passes away

93 is a good run. Carried the torch of Rupp…I will treasure my autographed jersey he signed with Denny Crum. A true gentleman. RIP

A great coach, but maybe an even greater man.

He had the toughest job in the world taking over from a legend, and handled it so well.

I cannot imagine the pressure of following Rupp as coach and wonder how many today would take that job.

Agents would probably say wait until the new guy fails, then pursue.

May he rest in peace.

Really kind hearted man. You couldn’t tell if kentucky had won or lost game when you talked to coach Hall

He didn't leave per se. He just retired from coaching. He was only 56, but he had been on the UK sidelines for 20 years, 7 with Rupp and 13 as HC.

Rupp was a huge dick about it too because he was pissed he was forced to step down (due to the force retirement age at the time for state jobs). Talked a lot of shite about Hall publicly and was just awful to him.

And Hall never said a sideways word about Rupp despite it.

UK was very fortunate to have a first class guy like Joe B. to take over for Rupp. Will always remember those mid 70’s teams with Robey. Some of my first memories of college basketball.

A humble man and a good one. I went to his basketball camp when I was a kid and actually learned a few things. You could see why people wanted to play for him. He was a patient teacher as well as a great coach.

When he was an assistant coach at UK, he lived next door to a friend of mine over by Glendover Elementary in Lexington. I was in awe seeing him there.

I loved the old Joe B and Denny show. They would talk turkey hunting in Shelby County, fishing, old times anything. We lost a real treasure.

RIP Coach Hall and condolences to your family.

Scuttlebutt at the time was that Gale Catlett helped stir the pot. He wanted that job and got Ole Adolph stirred up. Rupp had built the program and was being pushed out the door and Catlett played that up and pointed it towards Joe B.

But Joe never did say a thing about it or against Rupp.
