Speaks volumes to Joe B’s legacy that even the younger fans like me know his legacy and importance to the program. Truly an awesome guy and lifelong supporter of the program

I think he played in the game UK beat LSU about 120-70 and Piston Pete scored 68.

Besides his great teams I'll always remember him as a guy who reminded me of someone you might find in a small town diner wearing overalls getting ready to go to the farm or the shop.

Just a totally down to earth guy.

And I'm reminded of him a lot because one of the largest commercial building contractors in our state is from this are and his name is Joe B. Hall.

No. Robey was 5 or 6 years after Pistol. You might be thinking of Dan Issel.

Yes, Issel and Maravich were in the same time frame.

Thanks for your contribution, Coach. Ya bitter and provincial, low-IQ bottom-feeder. Can anything be about something other than Alabama insecurity? Even the passing of one of the league's respected coaches? Jesus, it's so vile the way you Gump ladies melt on memorial threads.

For those who aren't Gump bottom feeders, during Hall's tenure LSU was rolling under Dale Brown and beat UK on the regular and those two had a rivalry and a feud and both were perennial tournament teams and rivals. After Hall retired and he'd call games he and Dale were always chatting up a storm and we'd still say "Sit Down Joe" and he'd laugh and smile. We liked him, he was a winner and a gentleman. And from 77-85 those UK-LSU games were GOLD.

quote:

Joe B. Hall’s 1978 National Champions only lost two games. One of those was to Brown’s LSU Tigers.

One week after Kentucky won by two in overtime at LSU in 1980, the Tigers got revenge in the SEC Championship Game. Kyle Macy and Sam Bowie each scored 20 points for the Cats, but they could not out-duel DeWayne Scales who led all scorers with 26 points.

I'd have to look, but Dale probably had more success against Kentucky than any other coach. Playing LSU was always fun when Dale was there.

It has NOTHING to do with which school you pull for. You’re classless or you’re not.

You called 81-28 (nearly 75%) a rivalry! Hell! Alabama has the same abysmal win/lose % against Kentucky as LSU does, and you DAMN sure aren't gonna hear any Tide fans calling it a rivalry...
