This 100%! There were moments Saturday where he looked really good but then had long stretches where he looked like a D3 QB. He has been WAY overhyped and needs a lot of improvement to be anywhere close to matching his hype.

I have no idea why you brought up AJ McCarron based on anything you just said. Are we supposed to feel sorry for Manning cause he doesn't have as much talent as 2011-12 BAMA? They have a lot more talent than Tennessee and most everyone else on their schedule, and have been. He goes away for quarters, and he holds the ball far too long. You can't see that he's not reading the field?
AJ was in the pro-set, and Coach Saban wanted him to hand the ball off and throw play-action and then play defense. AJ was a gunslinger at heart when he came out of Mobile. Coach Saban had to coach it out of him. Think about Miss State his freshman year. I think he would love to sling it in these wide-open offenses. Arch Manning comparison ain't cutting it here.

That was the run game. AJ was actually struggling. Threw an INT. Almost threw another. Fumbled a few times. Maybe you don’t remember, but Bama went extremely run heavy from a certain point onwards. One of the reasons that TD pass worked was because Bama had ran the ball 14/16 plays prior to that with the 2 remote passes being 1-2 yard dump offs.
That being said, he’s got better fundamentals than Arch. Arch relies on his raw talent which is the exact opposite of what you’d expect with the nearly lifelong coaching he’s had

So Arch’s QB is closer to Marcel Reed’s right now than Chambliss’ and Chamnliss is 4th in the league.

Arch was never going to live up to the mountain of hype heaped upon his shoulders- which isn't hardly fair to the kid, IMHO. I think he's a solid QB, but the expectations of what he was (and is) asked to live up to are damn near impossible to meet.
Even at his young age, I believe he can relate to Kalen DeBoer's situation in that nothing he does will ever be "good enough" in the eyes of many.
This concludes my semi-sympathetic take.
