That is appealing but wouldn't it mean that e.g. Alabama would only ever meet Oklahoma in Atlanta?

Yep.

If you want rivalry games every year and they refuse the pods option? Then the cross division games are sacrificed.

On the balance that maintains more traditional games. LSU for example used to play Kentucky a fair amount but that functionally went away in 1992. They really never played Georgia and Tennessee South Carolina Oklahoma or Missouri so that's not a change

The kids don’t even play for free anymore, our schools shouldn’t either.

yep. It would be brutal to stick with divisions b/c the non-permanent games would never happen if we have to have 8. would rather do 1-7-7 but thatll never happen bc TSIO and DSOR wouldn't happen every year.

either way 8 games fricks a lot of fans.

The sec will do whatever it takes to keep bammer and georgia from playing during the regular season.

Can’t have that.

Funniest part in all of this. About the time they figure something out that makes sense for the conference and the new playoffs, we will add two more teams and have to figure it out all again.

Yet another step that sacrifices tradition for TV money. It’s clearly the only thing the SEC cares about anymore.

They aren’t high on the historic rivals priority list & would play each other on the same rotation as everyone else. This is about $$$.

You really need 10 conference games a year to manage rotating 16 teams.

Say what you want about Slive but that old man would have had a plan including the money and the schedule decided before it was public

I mean yea I don't like it either but if ESPN isn't gonna fork over any more cash for the 9th game the SEC shouldn't go to it anyway. SEC wouldn't have any leverage when they need to restructure with ESPN, Big 10 gap gets bigger. Hold the 9th game and potential new members (if this ACC smoke turns to fire) and play your cards with ESPN. ideally you'd hope this lasts only a couple years at the latest before ESPN offers enough

I hate this, but understand it. I was looking forward to a 9 game schedule.

It’s increasingly clear that Disney owns this league.

Sankey is so smart.

Wants to give away free content and reduce SEC playoff teams in the new playoff. Thus, giving away even more money.

What a joke.

Besides possibly knocking out a team for the playoffs, the teams that get in will be ranked lower if they have an extra loss from the 9th game and be on the road in the 1st round of the playoffs.

Everyone still gets a 9th P5, I’m sure there will be years someone like Georgia who will possibly keep GT now will play 10 P5 teams before the conference championship gets counted. Can see same for South Carolina who probably keeps Clemson annually now too.

Remind me…what’s the issue if we stay at 8 conference games with 2 permanent opponents and 6 other conference games? I agree with keeping that 9th game as a bargain chip to eventually surpass the Big 10 deal.

If they’re gonna keep 8 game schedule then permanent opponents needs to die now. There’s no need in that. Rotate the damn schedule and be done with it. Permanent only works with increase in number of sec games played. I get it ESPN won’t budge on money so why should sec give them a free product but for the good of the conference rotate.

t needs to be 9 games, but I understand keeping that as bargaining chip for more $ and ESPN not getting it for free

I agree, but do believe if they are doing away with divisions, it should should be 10. That way no one has an advantage of an extra home game. I don't like the NFL doing 17, but at least one conference has the extra home game. frick Goodevil for taking home games away for another continent

You’d want to ditch the Iron Bowl for negotiating leverage? Is tradition worth so little?

Good. Let ESPN pay up for a 9th game.

An Alabama fan against the annual games against Tennessee, Auburn, LSU, MSU, OM?

Seems incompatible with what makes SEC a brand.
