If they’re gonna keep 8 game schedule then permanent opponents needs to die now. There’s no need in that

Losing traditional rivalries is killing college football.
I lived many years in VA, WVU and VA Tech should play every year. There is plenty of hate still.

I don’t see what the SEC has to gain with adding another conference game. That means adding an additional loss to half the conference. With the Playoff expanding, the SEC will be getting 3-5 teams in the playoff every year with the current scheduling so why hurt the odds

Yes

That should be obvious to anyone. But this is the SEC rant.

People are also failing to mention the 9-game format gives half the conference one less home game than the other half in 2024, which is a lot of fricking money for the school, city, etc.

And the best part is it pisses off the Big 10 babies.

And inevitably subject to competitive abuse

Good systems anticipate incentives. The uneven number creates bad incentives

The best SEC teams will still make the playoff with an extra loss. The 8 game schedule is more about the middling teams being bowl eligible and being able to beat their chests being 8-4 and ranked #23 instead of being average and unranked at 7-5.

It would be brutal to stick with divisions b/c the non-permanent games would never happen if we have to have 8. would rather do 1-7-7 but thatll never happen bc TSIO and DSOR wouldn't happen every year.

I don’t see any indication that divisions will remain unless they use them for this “one year” solution that is getting tossed around. Sankey has specifically said the object is for teams to play each other more often. (Home and home with everyone in 4 years). Having divisions with a permanent opponent would be the complete opposite of that because teams would never play but one school in the opposite division. (Regular season)

Loser talk unsurprisingly from a Kentucky fan.

Imagine being a Georgia season ticket holder and having to go see a mix of Vandy, Kentucky, South Carolina and Missouri every year. EVERY YEAR. Then you get Nicholls or whatever other directional state school.

YUCK.

Regardless it’ll be 8 with one permanent opponent plus every team in two years or 9 with three permanent opponents with every team in two years.

Whatever your institution is would you rather attend a directional state school or a game vs. LSU, Texas, OU, AU, UGA, Bama, FLA, etc., etc.? What do the networks want to televise? Do the right thing and the money will come in the stadiums and the network(s)

Why do you always have to sound like you’re white knighting then Big 12? Dude, let them go.

Tho, the media reporting Colorado to the Big 12 are really hyping that move. What value does that add unless Prime coaches there 20 years.

Since espn is not paying more for 9th game Sec trying to save face and keeping that as a future bargaining chip Can revisit in 25 and see how it impacts playoffs

Probably the correct business move. Don’t add games until you can get them to pay for it. Also I suspect expansion may not be over and we will be reorganizing again shortly after the playoff expansion.

With playoffs going to 12 teams, maybe the SEC did this to try and get 4-5 teams in annually?? Hmm

Yes, they really should be going to 10. And they’re probably waiting out the possible collapse of the ACC as a major football conference before doing it.

The SEC is doing awful with negotiating.

ETA: can teams SEC teams play each other in a non-conference game and have separate tv money?

Keep in mind the playoff is expanding also, so an 8 game schedule is probably not so bad. An SEC natl champ would be playing a hell of a lot of games if we went to 9.

Why would LSU get A&M/Arkansas? That doesn’t make sense

Good? Really?

Is it really good to keep Chattanooga, The Citadel and all that crap on the schedule?

Georgia non-conference 2023 UT Martin, Ball State, UAB, Georgia Tech.

It would be a heck of a lot better to replace UT Martin or Ball State with at least 1 SEC foe.
