Opinions requested from those that used ESPN stand alone app this last year. Cut YTTV

So after the CWS was over I discontinued YTTV as I don't use it much other than Sports with the the bundled ESPN stations and The SEC network. Last summer ESPN introduced their stand alone pay streaming app. Below is a locked topic about using only ESPN APP.
Just 64 days until September 3rd, first day of SEC football!

My question is for those that used ESPN only.....
Would you recommend not renewing YTTV this fall and using the ESPN app service only? I have a Tablo and antenna so anything on Over The Air (OTA) Networks is not a problem and I can watch live and record on the Tablo via TV or android devices at the same time as streaming. Moneys not really an issue, but I can't see spending an extra 60 bucks a month for the YTTV stuff I never watch. BTW, I love the Tablo device.

Link to similar discussion from last August.

The only thing I'd miss on my YouTube TV are other live events like those on CBS and Fox. But yeah those are becoming more rare. Really it's mainly the Saints for me. And right now the world cup. (I don't watch NBC because who gives a rats arse about Notre Dame?)

And I wouldn't use Tablo/antenna for that simply because I like pulling up YouTubeTV on my phone and watching it on the back porch while smoking a cigar.

I should consider what you're doing anyway because there are freebie ways to get a Saints (or any NFL) game.

I just used ESPN unlimited and an antenna this past season for Big 10 games etc. and didn't have too many issues with it. I plan on doing the same this year. My guess is before the season they will offer the commercials included Hulu and Disney+ free with it again to try and fake boost their subscription numbers with those 2.

Should be fine, just hope Texas doesn’t end up in one of the TNT/TruTV CFP games.

Multi view got me. YTTV takes my money, I can’t go back.

I just did the ESPN app and antenna TV and was completely fine. Occasionally there's a B1G game that might actually be worth watching that those two options don't cover, but whatever. Not worth the extra $ to ensure you have every single game. Myself, 99% of the time, I watch whatever SEC game is on anyway.

Forgot about this possibility. Thinking on it though I'd probably pay for a Sling TV day pass and watch that way, or try the freebie stream pirate route.

March Madness I'll probably go with Sling or YTTV for a month.

Thanks to all for the information. I'll not renew YTTV and go straight ESPN stream this year.

Yeah exactly. I will watch Arkansas-A+M or Tennessee-UK over any B1G game outside of Ohio State-Michigan.

I had a terrible time logging into the ESPN app many times when it calls for you tv provider where you access ESPN. If you don't have a tv provider you have to have the ESPN plus or whatever they call now, as you mentioned. I don't know if they have trouble caching your login information or what but I had to login so many times when I needed SECN+ or ESPN+ for the many baseball games. Personally, getting rid of YouTubeTV would be a nightmare trying to navigate the things you watch that aren't ESPN and aren't over the air. I would bet you end up with enough different streaming apps that it would eventually catch up to the cost of a YTTV subscription.

Yeah, I used to have a hard time also, but I streamlined this process after a while.

1) NO VPN.
2) use only Google or Chrome while logging in. My default browser is Brave and that always caused issues.
3) if still having problems then go and clear out all your cookies from your Google or Chrome browser. In fact if you have a cleaning program apply to everything at this point and then try again.

Hope this helps somebody.

This. Plus the espn platform sucks. It’s worth it to me to pay to have multiview and to avoid the aggravation with the ESPN app.

To the OP, there is a tech board on here that has probably discussed these issues at length.

Yeah I know. I searched this board and found thread from last year so I included in op. Besides, I wanted Rant sports guys opinions, not a bunch of propeller heads.

The app is a POS. Got to wade through pages of crap they're trying to force on you to find the link you want.

Occasional drops but I'm on Starlink so it could be that.
