The last time these two teams played was in Oxford in 2014. Ole Miss won 34-3. It was Butch Jones' 2nd year and Hugh Freeze's 3rd year. We never played during the Pruitt or Luke years.

Tennessee is Ole Miss' 5th most played opponent. (Tied with Alabama until Saturday. Alabama will move to #6 and UT will stay at #5.)

Ole Miss and Tennessee played almost every single year prior to divisions in 1992 and then far fewer when A&M and Mizzou were added.

I grew up with stories of Hee-Haw Kiner, Archie Who, and the game in 1969. SI Vault Story on Archie Who game

I'm really looking forward to the game on Saturday and hope that the Volunteer fans are too. I hate that divisions have torn down this once great, albeit far successful for UT, rivalry. I hope the addition of Texas and Oklahoma doesn't do more of the same to series like this.

I hope that it's a good game (for us) and that we can somewhat rekindle the history a bit.

Agreed - I'd love to see UT and Ole Miss play on a more consistent basis. Enjoy the game, trip if you're making it and good luck

This game just screams neutral site Memphis for recruiting on both sides.

Tragically Ole Miss barely recruits Memphis. Freeze made it a priority and got his arse kicked there yearly and we got out of the game.

Agree with everything you said OP Ole Miss has always been the school I like most in the West and it’s a total shame VOLS play old school rivals OM and Auburn like maybe twice a decade now due to expansion.

One of my favorite older games to watch on YouTube is VOLS/OM 1996 at the Liberty bowl in Memphis. Boy that was a rowdy crowd and those Ole Miss fans HATED Peyton

LINK

Check out the OM fans sticking a knife in the Peyton piñata tailgating at the beginning

Its a dirty recruiting game in Memphis all around. Don't think Stoops spends much time there, but Cal certainly has and it's just filthy dealing with those folks down there. I did however kind of always assume Ole Miss and Arkansas held more sway there than even Tennessee, but maybe I'm wrong.

Tennessee is 44-20-1 in every game against Ole Miss.

The Volunteers and Rebels first played in 1902. Tennessee defeated Ole Miss, 11-10, in Memphis.

Tennessee is 25-5 all-time against Ole Miss in games played at Knoxville. The Vols are 3-2 at Oxford.

Tennessee holds a 13-10-1 advantage over the Rebels in games played at Memphis. The series is tied 3-3 in games played in Jackson, Mississippi.

Been there and done that. Let's never try that again.

Ole Miss fans will NOT go to games in Memphis because they hate the area around the stadium too much. It's more of a pain in the arse than anything.

1990 played in Memphis in front of largest crowd in Liberty Bowl history to watch Ole Miss and Tennessee play in de facto SEC championship game. Very electric atmosphere.

SEC scheduling needs a revamp.

The way it takes forever to play some teams is a travesty. Not sure what the answer is.

They are aware of the problem, and will fix it when the new boys arrive. Probably will go with elimination of divisions, and a 9 game schedule and 3 permanent opponents, rotating the other 12 teams six one year and six the next. That allows you to play a complete round robin, home and away, over the course of four years, while still preserving the rivalries that have to be played.

Ole Miss hasn’t been to Neyland since 2011 maybe…Houston Nutt and Nathan Stanley was QB I think. We got mauled.

I’d rather see all 10 SEC charter schools play more regularly. Arkansas and SC I don’t mind but I hate not playing traditionally SEC rivalries for Mizzou and TAMU. And soon to be UT and OU.

That’s when we had Masoli, he had just been cleared from concussion protocol that morning hadn’t practiced all week and it showed, we got blasted.
