Nah, Dan Wetzel is on this mantra. Bruce Feldman blasted him on Finebaum.
Yea, that was a laughably stupid and intellectually dishonest article. He knew it, too. But this is his shtick and he's going to craft whatever he can to fit it.

Okay, enough of the foolishness. Part of the issue is the location (very poor choice). Part of the issues is simple fatigue. These two teams have been in the National Championship picture for the past several games. At some point the shine is worn off.
If by fatigue you mean monetarily then yes. Alabama fans who have traveled to most of these games the last decade have spent upwards of $15-20K on just postseason football.
Just think about that.

And they still aren't buying tickets at a 90% discount.
Ninety(90) percent (%).
Nine-zero percent.
fricking Lulz.
Because the damn ticket isn't the bulk of the cost to go to a game in the Bay Area.

And honestly, it has to be one of the shittiest locations for college football you could choose. If you wanted to tour wine country, great choice. For the natty, try again.
The CFP is still a rather new entity and evolving. They are learning lessons on what they should and shouldn’t do every year. This should be one: keep it the hell away from the Bay Area. Unless Stanford made it, nobody in college football would send high numbers of fans. Number two should be you are detracting from and diluting your own product by having bowl games between the semis and the natty. The semis should be on NYD, the other bowls before the semis.

To be honest, it's a horrible location for the Champ game. FYI, it's going to be low 50's and possible rain during the game. Who wants to pay all that money to go somewhere that's always know to be cold (San Fran) and insanely expensive?
I think the final game should be ONLY be held in Dallas, Miami, Phoenix, Atlanta or New Orleans. All domes except Miami which is always nice.
If they had to dedicate one spot as a permanent location, just do it in Dallas. Centralized, fantastic venue, great city, great access, great support and a nice experience....

shite really?
I looked at all mine and they are all under 600 bucks.
Not bad for last minute.
I looked today and found some cheaper ones, but they were still $1,800. Better, but still pricey.

I'm sure you realize that the money isn't made by selling seats...

We need to stop having big games out west where people don't care about football and travel is expensive. You want a packed stadium then play the games where the fans are. I would like them to add the new Raiders stadium in Las Vegas when it finally gets completed.

Have you ever visited Alabama? ...driven the Natchez Trace, wended through the Tennessee River valley, down Lookout Mountain through Ft. Payne, Little River Canyon..deepest east of Rockies, played the Robert Trent Jones Golf trail, visited Fairhope-Eastern ashore... Gulf Shores beaches, Mobile Bay... Mobile home of Mardi Gras, etc?
I live in Louisiana but there is a lot of beauty and peace in Alabama.. plus people actually believe in things.
I love San Diego and would go if the game were there, but I see no reason to go to Santa freaking Clara at the arse end of San Francisco Bay in the middle of winter... hint - San FrNcisco area sucks in winter.

Espn is really pushing a strong narrative of it there is no fatigue, it's the best two teams, this is the point of the playoff etc. Tc

I'm commenting directly on what Dan Wetzel wrote and I'm 100% correct.

This debate is easily solved by asking one question : If Alabama and Clemson were playing in any city within reasonable driving distance (10 hours or less) with a beating pulse for college football, do you think that there would be issues with tickets and attendance? Yes or No?
If the answer is No, the problem is not college football or the playoff, fatigue or problems with the setup of the system, it is the site of the football game. And, based on every game that fits the above criteria, I think the answer is pretty clear.

The irony is that you are getting dumber every minute you spend watching an idiot like Pawl Frickbaum. As far as Wetzel, I don’t remember too many of yinz complaining about his hit pieces on Urban meyer, even though many of his “facts” were opinions flung against the wall to see what sticks. A lot like Bert McMurphy and his juvenile tantrum against Meyer. What a douchebag

Ok? Cool?
I'm not complaining, he can do and say whatever he wants. His argument is silly and flawed as has been pointed out by lots of other CFP people.
