We recently held an alumni reunion and paid for 99.9% of it out of department funds. During the tailgate to close the week, I was approached by a guy from our group and he said "We need to do this every year." my reply was simple, "We can't afford to do it every year.' He seemed taken aback and responded with "There's a bunch of folks here who can afford it." He pointed around to indicate someone other than him.
