quote:Probably... he can only walk if another team is willing to pay his buyout. Are there any top flight programs that would pay a salary like that plus a buyout? I doubt it.
Wouldn't he pay a penalty for walking on his contract. Is he 2/5 through his original contract?
The buyout from the coach side are generally much lower than the school side though. It may be a couple million bucks.

There was a thread on here a few days ago asking if Sexton had ever taken an L...this would be an L if I'm USC.

Sexton doesn’t take an L. SCar would big time though.
I think bubble bout to pop and Beamer trying to up his pay.

don’t think he does but he probably will. They had a good season but we’re still only 4-4 in conference play. And 3-5 the year before. This is his first head coaching job so I don’t think he’s shown enough to warrant a raise. USC did him a favor hiring him and if he sucked arse they’d still owe him his contract so he should deserves to coach under that deal at least one more year.
If he’s only making $2.75 million, bump into $4.5 million. That’s a 63.6363636363 (repeating of course)% raise.
Pretty fricking big time.

He signed a five year deal. What's he going to do? Pay South Carolina 8.25M so he can stay home and sit on his couch? I don't remember his name coming up in any coaching searches.

Beamer deserves a raise but $7.5 mill for beating Tenner and the taters is a bit much

The last 2 games were good, but let's be real man. He went 7-6 then 8-4. He has a losing conference record the last 2 years. And I don't think SCar is in any danger of losing him, where could he possibly go that's a step up right now? The biggest current openings as of now are Louisville and Stanford which are lateral moves at best, and in my opinion steps down.
Give him another year and reassess and don't cave into the pressure like A&M and Sparty did with Jimbo and Tucker.

So the best paying job available might be Louisville…. After that, probably UNT.. Let that sink in.
So I am not really sure where he is saying he might go unless it is the NFL. There is nobody out there in the CFB ranks open that could give him 4m right now, so this seems like a pretty blatant leverage by Sexton.

Or maybe coaches could just honor the contracts they sign that already have built in incentive bonuses for, you know, not sucking at your job.

It would be absurd IMO to raise him to $7.5m
He’s done okay and seems to have the program in the right direction, but it’s way too soon for a big boy contract
I can’t see any program equal or better than USC wanting to poach him just yet.

Sexton is a toxin. I think we can all agree.
Does anyone know how much revenue each SEC football program brings in? I think it is easy to scoff at a nominally large contract but if it is a small percentage of the program’s total revenue, it might not be as crazy as we think to offer these 7+ MM contracts.
The buyouts sexton is able to get these guys are crazy though. I don’t see any way to justify those. They need to start tying those to program performance and not just changing with the years of the contract.

College football would be better if Sexton dropped dead of a heart attack today.

Mediocre coaches like Mark Stoops are getting paid more, so why not?

That makes no sense
Think about this one yall before offering a serious opinion on it.

Jeebus.
These salaries are getting ridiculous.
That number makes Jimbo look like a bargain. Fisher has a Natty. Beamer has a 7-win season with a couple of good upset wins.

Will be a Sam Pittman deal. They threw that number up and he settled for 5-6

This is a situation where SC needs to call Jimmy's bluff. Beamer's name isn't floating around for any HC job. He's not going anywhere.

So Neuheisal is reporting a rumor about Sexton about Beamer and we’re taking it for gospel

Seems about time for AD's to start telling these agents to get lost. They're a toxin.

Neuheisal said it this morning on XM that buzz around the SEC Champ game was theta Jimmy is telling Ray Tanner that Shane Beamer gets $7.5M/yr or he walks.
I dont think Beamer walks but he will certainly exit at the next decent opportunity...
