re: Mainieri says he underestimated the strength of the conference these days

They’re saying he pretty much “mailed it in” and coasted after 2017, if not earlier. Of course his actual retirement was in 2021, but the biggest criticism of Paul was that he didn’t grind and work his arse off after 2009 and coasted on the LSU brand. There’s probably some truth to that.
All that said, I still appreciate what Paul did… he’s a hall-of-famer, rightfully so. He was a consistent winner, no doubt. And annually - for a decade+ long time period - had LSU consistently in the Top5-10 where it belongs. But he arguably could have done more (ie more titles) in his LSU tenure if he would have worked harder.
Win or lose with Jay, we’ve now got a coach that puts in 110% effort 24/7. Putting in the work will never be an issue with JJ, at least anytime soon. Jay is working as hard if not harder to get the second title as he did to get the first.

What’s the deal with the timing of the firing? I’m not going to say it’s likely, but I also wouldn’t say it’s impossible to still make it. It’s not like your team is awful imo. Home against Kentucky and ole miss, and a road series vs Missouri isnt exactly murderers row.
I think you answered your own question. They didn’t want him to slip into the postseason and delay the process and possibly make the decision that needed to be made regardless tougher.

I say go get Mingione

Better question: Can we stop calling Mizzou an SEC team?

No idea if there’s any mutual interest, but what about Mangione?

I’m assuming in this weeks D1 tourney projection… not that it really means anything at this point…. But you’d have LSU paired with Vandy for the Super

Who are people saying are the targets to replace Lemonis?

I’d imagine Lemonis is done after this season.

I said this yesterday, it’s crazy to think we’re #2 and honestly not even playing our best baseball yet.
As the temps rise and hopefully our bats get hot and more consistent, imagine what May and June could be.

It was a good series, could have gone either way. We’ll probably meet again in Hoover or Omaha

Had someone tell me today that LSU would be out of the top 10 after this weekend
Be sure and text that idiot tomorrow with a link to the polls. We’ll be either 2 or 3 in basically every poll.

We’re #2… and not even playing our best baseball just yet.
May/June gonna be fun when our lineup gets hot

And even if we assume that to be true, is still positioned for a Top5 seed at the moment.
Kinda scary to think what this team could do if we get hot in May/June.
We’re not even playing our best baseball yet and probably going to be ranked #2 tomorrow. Imagine if we do start playing our best baseball!
I just ran the numbers

And currently - with 3 weekends left in the regular season - your projected #2 NATIONAL seed is…….
The LSU Tigers

Eta: don’t ask me to show my work… it’s pages and pages of data and polls on my living room floor
Weekend Top10 notes:
Clemson got swept
Oregon St got swept
FSU loses series
Arkansas loses series
Tennessee loses series

Hell you can extend beyond the SEC
Currently LSU is probably the #2 NATIONAL seed

Obviously different circumstances and at the old Box, but definitely got me remembering the UC-Irvine epic comeback
It really really really sucks to be behind in a baseball game and seemingly hope lost, but those 9th inning comebacks are the best euphoric feeling. Unfortunately you can’t get to that comeback without first being behind.
