Not a hall of fame coach? That’s just dumb

He made a bowl in 19-21 seasons at Washington state , texas tech and Mississippi state. That’s hard to do.

Washington state and texas tech have worse histories than Mississippi state . That’s how you know it’s hard to win there

He deserves to be in not based upon wins, but sheer impact on the game

Burn it all down if they don’t lower the threshold for him.

IF he had been at USC, Texas, and Tennessee, he gets there.

Some places are harder to win at as a coach.

Washington St is probably the 7th best job in the PAC12 on a good day.
Tier 1: USC, UCLA, Washington Oregon
Tier 2: Stanford, Cal, Utah
Tier 3: WSU, ASU, Arizona, Oregon St
Tier 4: Colorado

All it would take is for a few teams to forfeit 3 old wins.

If he had retired instead of passed he STILL should have an exception here.

He deserves to be in the Hall of Fame.

He made the sport better, and he made us all, friend and foe alike, feel better about the game.

Not sure about that. I believe HOF voters would see a stark difference between voluntarily walking away and passing away while on the job. MAYBE if he had to retire for his health but not just retiring to spend time with the grandkids or play golf.

Damn. I never realized how much he elevated every place he was HC.

He would have done even better at MSU if he had more time. He started with nothing in the covid year, the fact he got us to 8-4 and 3rd in the west by year 3 is pretty solid

He should be in as a coach and as a contributor the game itself with the air raid and how he changed offense

Leach and Mumme transformed offensive football forever. Very few coaches have done anything near this.

Another window into his personality was his embracing the challenge of coaching teams with marginal histories of success.

There are few times I've ever been proven more wrong than his first ever game at Miss St. against defending national champion LSU. I believe LSU was 16.5-point favorites. Not only did they beat the Tigers, but actually handled them. I thought for sure MSU would be nowhere near ready for that given the fact that it was his first year and a very very different offseason than most.

Obviously that had some to do with LSU not being the same as they were in 2019. But that was always Leach's M.O.: putting forth striking performances when you least expect it and when the nation is doubting you.
