Mike Leach's .596 winning % leaves him just below (literally, three wins) the CFB Hall's .600 threshold for coaches.

I understand why the standard exists, but an exception must be made for him.

You can't tell the story of CFB without Mike Leach.

Look at how well he performed vs. the standard at the places he coached

I think there are exceptions to every rule and this is one.

No way he wouldn’t win more than he loses next season.

CML will be in the CFB hall of fame or they should tear down everything because it is meaningless.

100% agree here. If there is any chance of an exception, Coach Leach deserves it.

This isn't why people think Leach should be in the hall.

Huge Leach fan & have absolutely no issue if they make an exception, but not sure how an early demise changes the threshold to MUST level.

Everywhere he coached was significantly better than how they were historically over the life of the program. Given time...Mississippi State was the next on the list for improvement.

He got to Texas Tech in 2000. In 2002, he had their second 9 win season in over a decade. In 2008, he had their first 11 win season in over 30 years, and only the 3rd one in the history of the program.

He took over Washington State in 2012. In 2015, he had their first 9 win season in nearly 15 years. In 2018, he had the only 11 win season in the history of the program.

Programs were better with him at the helm. That's what HOF coaches do...and he is absolutely a HOF coach.

I’ve never thought twice about the CFB Hall of Fame. Leach’s name alone carries more gravitas than that institution.

The HOF has a committee that reviews unique cases and Leach certainly qualifies as one.

There are a bunch of coaches who were inducted under the .600 career threshold, including Hayden Fry, Frank Howard and George Welsh, so Leach has to get in eventually.

Well besides that he probably would have gotten over it next year, I think it should just be done away with altogether. People like Howard Schnellenberger aren't eligible either even though Miami as we know it probably never comes to fruition without him. Just seems really arbitrary especially when coaches take on jobs that take longer to build up or is unrealistic to have consistent results like the elite jobs do.

I can maybe see such a requirement in the NFL when it's a relatively more even playing field with the draft and salary caps, etc but jobs aren't equal in CFB.

Going .596 at Texas Tech, Washington State, and Mississippi State is HOF worthy in and of itself. Period.

That’s the veritable equivalent of—and more impressive than—going .800 at Bama, OU, or Ohio State.

He’s a slam dunk for the hall of fame. So many areas of the game he affected both football wise and outside of football.

Damn. I never realized how much he elevated every place he was HC.

Real ones know he’s forever a HOFer

Wins and losses do not tell the true story of Mike Leach. The guy revolutionized offense in college football. The game we see today is a direct result of his philosophy.

If the Hall of Fame does not recognize that then it doesn't need to recognize anything.
