The story from the LSU administration doesn’t smell right. They’re claiming he is academically ineligible because even though he went to summer school and passed, he somehow ended up enrolled in the wrong class. If that’s true, heads at the counseling department and at the Cox Center for Student Athletes need to roll because that makes no sense. That is some unbelievable incompetence.

In fact, that story is so incompetent, that I cannot actually believe it. At this point, I’m expecting that story to be a cover up for much worse allegations that justify not being eligible to play this year.

This is even more pathetic due to how my expectations of competency from LSU’s administration is pretty damn near zero, yet this is such a low bar that it leaves me shocked in disbelief and disappointment because even I did not believe that the bar had sunk this low.

Any LSU fans wanna revisit their arguments that LSU academics surely did not fail Arik Gilbert in any way?

Holy shite.

Does LSU not have a couple people on staff who's only job is to make sure football players are taking the right classes and telling them what grades they need? Just like every other college football team in the country. Hell the Mississippi CC on Last Chance U has that lady

Yes the Cox center has like 30 people that work in that Center for Student-Athletes. The Executive Leadership Council has 7 members, one responsible for Academic Affairs. The Executive Director of Academic Affairs has a Administrative Academic Team Staff of 11 people, 2 of them are 100% responsible for football.

He should have kept his commitment to UGA and he wouldn't be in this mess.

Somebody on reddit said he was in summer retaking a class he failed in spring which makes even less sense because you would think if you are retaking a class you'd notice you are in the wrong class.

Whole thing seems crazy and not sure what to believe.

One is headcase and one seems to be a dumb arse who doesn't know how to register for classes properly.

Every player (and student for that matter) has an academic counselor who advises on what courses are required, etc. I don't know if there is a level above specific to the football team or athletic department at LSU to double-check the counselor.

Worse most all major schools have a college specific advisor, a team specific advisor, and then an eligibility director or specialist to insure things like this never happen. This was a colossal systematic frick up

So it's your position that programs regularly falsify the academic progress records they report to the NCAA and place both their program and the school's accreditation at risk?

It’s possible that the department changed the course prefixes and numbers in Spring or the University changed what the course could count for curricularly. Still, should’ve been picked up on by SOMEONE and if it were that simple, an academic appeal should be able to clear it up.

Yeah, this isn’t something that can or would be swept under the rug. There’s no plausible deniability here; it’s all hard evidence, in writing and it’s honestly not hard in this day and age to stay eligible except for gross administrative incompetence or pure ignorance and laziness by the student

This isn't a Woodward frick up. Someone in the academic department scheduled the intercession class for him. He passed the class and then the NCAA decides the class doesn't qualify and he has to sit out. Whoever scheduled the class has probably been fired already

Surprising that an appeal was denied but then we don’t have the full story. If it was incompetence or negligence on the part of Emory himself then that’s like make sense.

Lawyering up won’t do much if the process was fair and balanced; University’s typically don’t let threat of litigation frick with the integrity of such processes since it’s tied directly to accreditation standards and it opens the door for rich kids to bully their way out of messes of their own making.

Then again, it’s Louisiana so he will probably be cleared to play come Saturday.
