Culturally and academically UVA and UNC just fit into the BIG so much better than the Sec. The better question is why if they have their choice of the two conferences would they choose the SEC? So they can compete with Vandy for the basement and make less money?

IF we must expand...I would prefer UNC and UVA to VT or F$U or Clemson.
I would prefer to stay at 16.

People seem to think UVA is UGA but it actually has more in common with Cal-Berkeley.
Their leadership is well left of UT-Austin and their alumni base wants nothing to do with the unwashed masses of the public schools in the south. They think they’re better than you and if you don’t believe me just ask them.

For other ACC schools that would bring money I see see UNC, Duke, and I guess a combination of UVA,VT, Miami, or Louisville. ACC schools don’t bring a lot of value.
You've got ND (which B1G wants most of all). Should that happen, can the SEC counter to remain the TOP CONFERENCE?

At 24, we're just a confederation, and likely to be split geographically. If we take 8 more teams from the ACC, then you'll probably end up with something like 8 team pods.
That would be 3 @ 8 each. Good luck sorting that out.

What is this “let’s”. Missouri is not in the SEC.
Edit: Apparently Missouri is actually in the SEC. It appears it was originally a prank and happened when Sankey was really drunk during Covid, then was so hungover the next 2 days that he forgot about correcting it.

The Sorbonne and Trinity College in Dublin.
The conference needs to expand into Europe.

I love telling uva grads that ole Miss is just as good of a school. They get so mad. It’s great!

65% of the student body is from Virginia. 35% is from OOS bud.

If the next round is about creating must watch matchups as they’ve been saying why would Virginia make the cut?
1989 was the last AND ONLY time they’ve won 10 games. Clemson and FSU are the only 2 brands that add value.

I grew up in small town south Texas, but have lived in NC 40 miles below the southwestern VA border for 30 years now.
The majority of VA outside of the DC / northeastern metro region, particularly the small town and rural areas, is 2A supporting old South / redneck / hillbilly - I’m sure you would feel comfortable there... and yes, I feel comfortable there too. Plus the countryside is way prettier than College Station, and green in the summer with lots of trees…
UVA has excellent academics, and yes some faculty and student body members skew more liberal, not unlike UT Austin.
VA Tech is respected academically with many good tech and science programs similar to Texas a&m… their student body and alumni are more normal though… they do love their football, but are not as cult like as Texas aggies, haha…

UVA is a historic institution with an impressive alumni base, incredible campus and elite brand. I can’t believe how many ranters think Virginia tech is remotely similar

This is about football though right? Does the SEC care about academics and elite branding? Do fans watching the games care about how beautiful and historic the campus is? VT is better in every way measurable than UVA when it comes to FB, plus they have a bigger campus (30k vs. 22 students), bigger stadium, more alumni, and more sidewalk fans. They fill their stadium and travel well.

It’s been awhile since I’ve lived in NC so I’m not personally very in tune with the state government. The consensus on our message board though is that the people in power at the state level that call the shots for the university system are actually mostly NCST fans, and they’re working hard to pass legislation that will tie the two schools together if/when any conference realignment happens.
We’re stuck between a rock and a hard place. I like the ACC for what it is in terms of the rivalries/matchups. Unfortunately, the marquee programs like FSU/Clemson football, UNC/Duke basketball, etc. are only going to fall further behind the BIG and SEC moving forward if they stay in the ACC. One way or another it looks like that will be the catalyst that breaks up the conference. If the choice is to stay in our original conference while our athletic programs slowly fall behind, or jump to a P2, I guess I would pick the latter option. Nothing against the BIG or SEC, but we would be an outcast in either conference.

This is absolutely true, and even UVA would admit it, but I believe if Tech is added, they will mostly be Arkansas/Ole Miss level. No way would they be able to compete every year with the top teams. Especially with Texas and Oklahoma coming in. UVA would add more across other sports. Plus if we can get UNC, would have a natural rival already.

be split geographically. If we take 8 more teams from the ACC, then you'll probably end up with something like 8 team pods. I'm sure that LSU and the Mississippi schools would love being split off from the other charter SEC members to be lumped in a pod with Arkansas, OU, A&M and Texas. Or, maybe instead of 8 ACC schools, we take 4 from the ACC, and then UH, Baylor, Tech, and TCU from the Big XII. Put those four with A&M, Texas, OU, and Arkansas, and we've just about got the SWC back together.
