It's very disappointing what Mr. Jefferson's university has come to be.

People seem to think UVA is UGA but it actually has more in common with Cal-Berkeley.

Their leadership is well left of UT-Austin and their alumni base wants nothing to do with the unwashed masses of the public schools in the south. They think they’re better than you and if you don’t believe me just ask them.

Totally disagree. We're the only (P#) conference in the country who can use a geographic designation with any degree of accuracy ....... (yes, I realize Missouri isn't exactly Southern but that's splitting hairs). Big 12 never used one and certainly cannot now, same with the Big 10, the ACC could at one time but no longer and the PAC 12 is a goner.

the state legislature has already got involved. they're proposing giving the UNC system board the power to stop any in state public school from moving conferences. dont know what its like up in VA but thats what's happening here

https://www.wralsportsfan.com/unc-system-president-board-could-stop-unc-nc-state-from-changing-conferences/21244582/

as far as UVA or Tech, neither. 16 is plenty

Tell me you’ve never been to UVA without telling me. UVA and UNC are much more like UGA (frat with good academics basically) than Cal Berkeley.

I’d always heard it as “a vale of humility between two mountains of conceit” in reference to the unbelievable plantation wealth in Tidewater VA and Lowcountry SC. NC has some nice antebellum homes but those two states were really big in that regard.

Actually I have.

You are saying culturally UVA is akin to UGA?

UNC is probably fine.

UVA is different in a myriad of ways.

I don't think the legislature is going to prevent UNC from making an extra 40 million per year if nc state can make about what it does now in big 12.

The kids in NC view UNC and UVA similarly. I know some really good kids at UVA now that would’ve loved UGA too.

You could add Arkansas State and they would find ways to lose to them.

If you think the administration at UVA has any passing similarity to the admin at UGA when it comes to commitment to athletics, culture or activism you don’t know UGA very well.

UNC has a commitment to basketball that changes things somewhat because they understand what it takes to compete nationally.

UVA has had success recently in basketball with a unique coach and system that doesn’t require them to play the NIL recruiting game but will never commit the resources to compete nationally in football.

The word I have heard is that UVA Visitors want the SEC over the “academically oriented” Big Ten. They aren’t as left wing nor as anti-sports as you make it seem.

They also have a better baseball program with better attendance than UGA. Did a nice reno recently. They certainly could use improvement in football and I could see that happening in the SEC.

Virginia Tech fits in with us a lot more than UVA does.

Expansion is a matter of when not if. Big 10 and SEC are eventually going to 24 a piece and leave the NCAA because money trumps tradition or culture.
What's magical about 24? Nothing. I can tell you why 16 is significant: because, with a 9 game schedule, we can still play everyone with enough frequency to have something that can be called a conference.

At 24, we're just a confederation, and likely to be split geographically. If we take 8 more teams from the ACC, then you'll probably end up with something like 8 team pods. I'm sure that LSU and the Mississippi schools would love being split off from the other charter SEC members to be lumped in a pod with Arkansas, OU, A&M and Texas. Or, maybe instead of 8 ACC schools, we take 4 from the ACC, and then UH, Baylor, Tech, and TCU from the Big XII. Put those four with A&M, Texas, OU, and Arkansas, and we've just about got the SWC back together.

There really is no reason for the SEC and Big Ten to leave the NCAA. It's not like the NCAA is blocking these schools from doing anything.

This is false. Not to say UVA and UGA are that similar, but the core UVA student and alum is not similar to the core Cal student.

UVA is certainly more liberal than most in the SEC, but in the vein of a finance bro liberal vs. a tech liberal.

Virginia over Tech. Virginia gives you better across the board returns. And Tech hasn’t been more than a blip in football in almost a decade.

What does UVA provide? Certainly not football. And don’t sleep on Tech’s Stem degrees. Very good school.

“ Miami, or Louisville.”

NO NO NO and NO to the two above outlaw schools.

We don’t need to expand but if it happened, then I am good with NC, NCState, Duke, Va, Va. Tech, FSU, Clemson, Tulane (yep that is only former team I would like to see back in the SEC).

But if we are eventually going to get to 24, then above teams make the most sen$e and keeps us with a good geographical profile.

No And Never to Miami and Louieville.

Money. Why give the other conference teams more than they deserve? An SEC B1G only championship would get great TV ratings.

I'd rather see the other conferences included, but only if they understand their value and accept the cold harsh reality
