With QB play being the talk of the board as of late, I thought it’d be interesting to see the last time each school had a 3,000 yard passer.

Here are the results in order from most recent:

Auburn 2017, Jarrett Stidham (3,158)
Missouri 2017, Drew Lock (3,964)
Arkansas 2016, Austin Allen (3,430)
Alabama 2015, Jake Coker (3,110)
Ole Miss 2015, Chad Kelly (4,042)
Mississippi State 2015, Dak Prescott (3,793)
South Carolina 2014, Dylan Thompson (3,564)
Georgia 2013, Aaron Murray (3,075)
LSU 2013, Zach Mettenberger (3,082)
Texas A&M 2013, Johnny Manziel (4,114)
Tennessee 2012, Tyler Bray (3,612)
Kentucky 2010, Mike Hartline (3,178)
Florida 2007, Tim Tebow (3,286)
Vanderbilt 2005, Jay Cutler (3,073)

QB play hasn’t been AS terrible in the conference as some have made it out to be... aside from Florida and Vanderbilt.

Georgia hasn't had a returning starter since Murray.

I could see 3000 this year as we emphasize a little more to 50/50 play calling on 1st down.

Agreed. I’m definitely foreseeing a UGA QB throwing for over 3,000 this year.

We're not surprised by this at all.

In 2014, when Kenny Hill was benched after the 8th game, he had 2,649 yards. Didn't play again that season.

In 2015, before Kyle Allen lost his starting job to Kyler Murray he had 1625 yards, then another 497 in his last two starts.

In 2016, Trevor Knight had 1,868 yards prior to getting hurt against Mississippi State. He had 522 yards in his final two games.

In 2017, after returning from his injury, Nick Starkel put up 915 yards in 4 starts.

It's certainly misleading that Auburn is mentioned since last year is the only one they've had this century, maybe all time. In fact, Gus has only had 2 2000 yard passers in his 5 years. I guess Gus is now entering the 21st century. Even stodgy ole Alabama has had 3 3000+ yard passers and 2 2000+ during Gus' tenure.

Nick Fitzgerald could very well have a 5000 yard passing season and a 2000 yard rushing season. Would not surprise me

In A&M's entire history there have only been 3 quarterbacks to ever throw for 3,000 or more yards in a season.

2009: Jerrod Johnson (3,579)
2011: Ryan Tannehill (3,744)
2012: Johnny Manziel (3,706)
2013: Johnny Manziel (4,114)

Useless fricking stat!!

3 of these teams had losing records. 3 teams only ended up 1 game over .500.

Only 2 of the teams on this list (Auburn and Alabama) even made the SEC Championship Game which leads me to believe a combination of the below to be true:

1. Most of these yards were put up against shite OOC teams.

2. DB's in the SEC suck!!!

2010 Superman
2011 Barrett Trotter

Florida’s unimaginably poor qb play has kind of flown under the radar compared to LSU’s. It was even more of a shite show than normal this past season.

Josh Dobbs missed the 3,000 mark by 54 yards in 2016...but he also added over 800 yards on the ground.

We are in the same boat (2 returning startees going back to through 2005). But at that time, it was working the way it was supposed to.
2005 DJ Shockley
2006 Matt Stafford
2007 Matt Stafford
2008 Matt Stafford
2009 Joe Cox
2010 Aaron Murray
2011 Aaron Murray
2012 Aaron Murray
2013 Aaron Murray
2014 Hutson Mason
2015 Grayson Lambert
2016 Jacob Eason
2017 Jake Fromm

We had a failure in recruiting later in Richt's tenure. But I have to give Richt credit for the stability from David Greene through Aaron Murray. It was an impressive run until it wasnt.

No, Dameyune Craig had 3,277 one year. It's not too surprising, AU has always been run heavy, and many QBs were on the cusp of 3k.

We haven't had a QB start every game in a season since Tebow, as ridiculous as that sounds. We have lost a starter to injury every single fricking year.

I wonder how Bama would do if they lost Tua and Hurts to broken collarbones or torn ACLs and had to start #3. That shite has happened to us like 4 times in the last 8 years. Hell, just look at FSU last year, and they were starting #2. Its a miracle what we've been able to do with trash backups starting almost 30% of games every year.

Missed 4K by 36yds. That would chap my OCD side so bad. Ha!

Stat overall is not one to hang ones hat as an overall team stat. Helpful during draft time for the qb, ans some wrs. Defs tend to be hurt by high passing teams. Why the big 12 is in trouble on that side of the ball.

We have been screaming about this for the last 5 years at least. The main reason we hired McElwain was the QB position. Hence the famous quote about him being able to coach up his dog Clarabelle to be successful at QB.
