Moonrise Kingdom is his masterpiece. Suck it if you disagree.

1. Moonrise Kingdom
2. Grand Budapest Hotel
3. Rushmore
4. Royal Tenembaums
5. Life Aquatic

The earnestness of Moonrise Kingdom puts it over the top. When David Foster Wallace advocated for a "New Sincerity" to replace postmodernism in art, MK is what he was talking about. Unfortunately, the term was co-opted and rendered meaningless in subsequent years.

Given the massive disparity in success, maybe BK would be wise to close on Sunday to better manage payroll during peak business hours and attract better applicants who value set weekend time off with their families.

Or, frick 'em, they can continue racing to the bottom.

does UGA cheat

Yes, everyone does.

do they lose out on recruits and we make fun of them

Yes, this happens to everyone, even when they cheat.

You think UF bagmen got their 400k back from Arik Gilbert when he didn't qualify?

It was an unprofessional thing to say.

I certainly agree with this.

I would also say it was in response to an equally unprofessional question:

Will you admit, sir, that children reading in the newspaper about how their school might be closed would have a drastic influence on test scores?

Sally Fox is on your stupid infographic twice.

Someone please hurry up and ban this clown.

Nolen has an interview with Michigan 247 conducted after his interview with Florida 247. In that conversation, he says he will still be going on visits and will be in Athens on June 10.

His father is also in the interview and said that people are making a lot out of a tweet.

This is going to sound super salty, because that's probably all it is, but I swear this shite happens to Florida more than any other school. We get a ton of top 100 kids on campus every year, a bunch of them are throwing shite around "It was a 10/10", "Florida is my leader", etc. Then it *always* gets walked back immediately, even for the kids we land, it always gets walked back, their recruitment drags on for 2 or 4 or 6 more months.

We've had years where we can't buy even a visit from a 5 star. THAT I understand. That makes sense.

Under Meyer, top 250 kids were begging to commit for months, worried they'd miss a spot. THAT I understand. That makes sense.

It feels like the game is just fundamentally different for some schools now. Does Bama or UGA experience this? It certainly doesn't seem like it. Guys play them or troll them (UGA anyway) or play it close to the vest. But I never see some dude on the board, Top 100, go to UGA for a weekend, get all hyped, glow about them in the interviews, then (1) not actually commit and (2) Dad or Cousin or "Family Friend" comes out on Tuesday to talk about how shite is taken out of context.

Rant over, I know it's just me being jealous.

The Thin Red Line was pretentious tripe. It was also a movie about the Vietnam War that masqueraded as a World War II movie about the invasion of Guadalcanal.

It wasn't about Vietnam any more than it was about Guadalcanal. It explored the battlefield in aggregate as a physical, emotional, and spiritual crucible.

The dude was a Rhodes Scholar that graduated summa cum laude from Harvard and taught Philosophy at MIT when all those things actually meant something. He also makes deliberately personal films. Even his most ardent fans should admit that there are certain impenetrable layers to his work.

Yeah it's been clear The Truman Show should have won that year. Not sure it's close either.

At a minimum, how do you not nominate Jim Carrey for Best Actor? He won the Golden Globe but wasn't nominated for the Oscar.

I thought the flick deserved a Best Picture nom and it has aged incredibly well. Not sure how I'd vote on an accurate slate of nominees.
It's vote buying, but is not coming from the electorate.

Walmart
Target
Amazon
Macy's
Nike
Dicks Sporting Goods
GAP Inc

The country's largest retailers are reporting record earnings in Q1 '21 after sucking up billions of dollars from Uncle Sugar. You think they want to cut that off? They've watched the Defense Industry make trillions and are ready to get their cut.

Nice breakdown, I would choose The Thin Red Line of the actual nominees.

Now do a serious breakdown of a new slate of movies that views popcorn watchability as a plus and not a disqualification

New 1998 Best Picture noms:

The Wedding Singer
The Big Lebowski
The Truman Show
Pleasantville
The Prince of Egypt
Same username on two sites? Rookie mistake.

Man it would be horrible to lose in the regional to some small school wannabees.

Thank god Florida only had to play USF and South Alabama...

Florida recruits heavily in state because the Bright Futures scholarship offsets an additional $2k or so for academically inclined students. Used to be an even bigger range of qualifiers but the state budget took precedent.
Not my wife's bag. She's got

Sneakers
Flip Flops x2
Gardening Shoes
Bean Boots (rarely worn)
Fake Uggs (chief winter footwear)

I've carried about double her number of shoes our whole marriage, mostly because I rotate about 6 pairs of sneakers and have more outdoor shoe needs.

Now actual clothes, she's got me beat by a mile there. I chuck 25% or more of my closet every year, she holds on to everything.

One would think it’s either Florida or Alabama at this point

Someone on Twitter claimed he just visited UMich on Tuesday, apparently has family up there.

I don't believe any of the bullshite in recruiting, you're either coming or not.

I will say, shutting it down off an official but not immediately announcing screams troll to me, and Mullen has fallen for it several times the last few years.
quote:

Damn that would be a shocker.

Unfortunately, I agree. None of Mullen's class have shown urgency or an ability to close on Target #1 with any consistency.

I want to be proven wrong, but I expect to hear "Oh he had decided on Bama 6 months ago and this was a courtesy visit" or whatever.
