I think it is a NIL thing where Ole Miss in this case threw money bags at portal guys and did nothing for the guys already there and hence created a compensation problem.

Ha nah. New NIL deals with current players are renegotiated every single season for the most part. That's how it works at all schools and Ole Miss is no different. Judkins had already signed his new deal and then wanted more to the tune of 1.5 million. Kiffin told him to go to another program as he and his mom weren't worth the headache. Easy as that.

The NIL is going to be the end of cfb. We are only seeing the beginning now. It's going to be like a HC trying to hang on to his coordinators after a good season. Every player will all be going from team to team for more money and there will be no stability on a team from year to year. They won't even to be able to put out a realistic preseason poll anymore.

Not all players are like Judkins. It's been said that some players on the OM team have taken a slight cut on their NIL deals to allow more talent acquisition. If anything NIL just helps to highlight the greedy, egotistical and non-team oriented players.

No, it needs to be actual NIL where they’re getting paid for their “Name, Image and Likeness” as they should. They’ve made it pay for play now and it’s a free for all

The sad part about this situation is that a lot of three star players thought that it would be easy to just select the best offer.

There aren't any three stars who didn't play entering the portal with NIL options. A three star who didn't play as a freshman is the portal looking for playing time and a better depth chart or they realize they made a mistake on signing day.

A team that needs just one or two pieces can make Judkins rich. Alabama for instance ...

The regulation needed can be relatively simple I think.

By rule, NIL deals are not allowed to be tied to attending a school.

But what has happened is that the contracts have been made in a fashion where a player effectively does have to attend the school to collect (mid-week appearances required in the town a school is located in for example, but there are lots of other requirements that can't really be met unless you are attending the school a collective wants you to attend).

The regulation needed is to have a central body analyze the contracts and reject any that in any way tie NIL money to a particular school attendance.

If that gets done, a player can keep their NIL deal even if they transfer somewhere else. And if that happens, schools won't try to buy players... because they can't enforce the deal. You give them 5 million dollars and they'll still collect even if they transfer. Having a signing period for contracts that ends prior to transfer windows also will help with that. Your local car dealership will have to pay the guy knowing he might transfer, so they better be sure that they can get value from him regardless of where he's playing the next season.

You have to realize, it's ALREADY against the rules to tie any NIL deal to attending a particular school. They just need to enforce that better instead of only blocking deals that directly state that.

The fact kids are rewarded for it is what is most disappointing

Pretty soon, likely this coming season, you will also see stories of it backfiring for kids as well though. Famous kid with a secure starting job transfers so he can feel the love and gets benched at the new team with NFL dreams in the gutter and nowhere to go.

The NFL has actually gotten much better the last few seasons after guys like Antonio Brown and LeVeon Bell got told to shove it and ruined their careers. Players and their agents think twice before playing games that can backfire. I think college will be tough to watch for 3 or 4 years and eventually the pendulum will swing back.

In a completely open free agent market every year like the players want they actually hold much less power because they are so replaceable and schools will pay less without a 2 or 3 year guarantee you will stay.

Alabama saw this last year with Javion Cohen. Starting OG. Wanted more NIL and for Alabama to get his girlfriend into law school. Didn’t get those demands and left for Miami.

The portal giveth and the portal taketh away. This is just part of the game now. Ole Miss has done well in the portal, and we can't complain when people leave.

Not all turnover is bad. Judkins is a fantastic back, but it sounds like Ole Miss and Judkins had reached a point where they had done all they could for one another.

Judkins needed a kick in the arse to become a better person. Instead he remains a shithead and can go get more money because he carries a ball well.

It seems that his mom is part of the problem, if what I have heard is true.

I can't remember exactly what happened last year before the season started but there was a big issue with her throwing a bitch fit on twitter and removing everything OM affiliated from her account.

Parents can be the absolute fricking worst sometimes. Same thing with Laremy Tunsil. His dad was the one shopping around and making demands. Laremy had to beat his arse and throw him out of the house at one point.

Lane has worked Judkins like a rented mule
274 and 271

He has more carries in two years than Kerryon in 3 and people want to say Gus ruined Kerryon's career.

Judkins needs to get that money.

What would you regulate? NIL is not and should not be pay to play, it allows players to sign endorsements. What are you wanting done exactly? Force the NFL to have an unprofitable minor league that can take kids that are 18 months removed from high school (giving them 2 seasons in college).

Even if you set up a commissioner and put up the infrastructure to have a 48-64 team league and had a salary cap NIL money would still be a thing. Even with oversight programs are still going to buy runs at a championship.

In trying to do something for the sake of doing something you just make the situation worse. Let the current system play out. The lack of a return on investment will slow this stuff down on its own given time. The market is self correcting as long as it isn’t artificially propped up.

It takes more than skill to be worth what you’re asking for. If you’re gonna demand top dollar for your talent you better not be full of drama and make everyone in the locker room hate you.

Changes are going to have to be made. There should be NIL contracts where they have to commit to the school and you cannot opt out or transfer. Money shouldn’t be this easily accessible with no commitment
