Him and Les were friends, Jeff didn't do the dd and hired his friend. It makes kansas look incompetent and puts eyes on them. They have enough risk with Self and the basketball program. However, Self is more important than JL.

Promoted her over some notable applicants. As I remember, one final candidate was Ben Wilkerson, LSU's First Team All-American and Rimington Trophy winning Center from 2004.

Makes sense. He tried to hire Miles at Arkansas in 2012, after Miles had just led LSU to the national championship game. Everyone laughed at the time, but Long probably knew that Aleva was trying to get rid of Miles and you have to think that he knew why.

Didn't Petrino hire and subsequently promote his mistress? From what I recall that is what got him fired, not the motorcycle wreck where he crashed his face into her boyfriend's fist 16 times in a row.
Long is a weasel that has no business running athletics.

He had some financial shenanigans at Arkansas, not personal embezzlement but he played footloose and fancy free to get some of his personal projects built. Mostly though... he did not vet his hires very well.
Wisconsin fans told us every single thing that would happen with Bert and we still hired him. A little research and we would have skipped that. He brought this upon himself.

Agreed!
And you may very well be right about Bielema, but I do find it interesting that Long even approached Miles about our job around the same time Alleva wanted him gone.

I can get past the firing of Petrino, since the position he put his mistress in was a government job, so it kind of had to be done.
I can’t forgive his inability to do his job and actually look for a coach, so he just picks the one guy who was being ran out of Wisconsin for the previous 3 years and needed a landing spot.
He then gave that fat piece of shite a bad contract for one winning season. He also hired Jimmy Dykes instead of actually looking for someone.
He has a track record of just doing whatever comes to him instead of going out and making his schools better.
Then during all this he was more worried about his image of being the chairman of the playoffs.

Jeff Long is the same guy who brought in Snoop Dog for a midnight basketball gig to open their season. Later, he said he didn't know the event might be inappropriate .

Tuberville turned down Arky the year before he accepted the AU job. Good 'ol boys. Holtz left. Broyles and good ol' boys. Hatfield left. Good 'ol boys. Petrino fired. Good 'ol boys. Jimmy Jonhnson and Jerry Jones. Maybe you should fire your good 'ol boys and get to a bowl game?

Meh, good ole boys go out one door and come in another. And it’s pretty difficult to fire good ole boys like Jerry Jones, who give a metric frickton of money to the university. About the best you can do is limit his influence and keep him happy about it. Story goes, Jones saddled us with the Chadster. Amazing to me that his ego will not let him recognize how much he sucks at hiring coaches.
