Jeff Long out as Kansas AD

Good.

Now they can hire an AD who has a clue.

Didn't Petrino hire and subsequently promote his mistress? From what I recall that is what got him fired, not the motorcycle wreck where he crashed his face into her boyfriend's fist 16 times in a row.

Yes I think any AD would have fired Petrino after this. Other than maybe Joe Alleva.

If I remember correctly. I believe he also refused to fire Bret Bielema.

Single handedly destroyed the football program by firing Petrino

While I don’t disagree with the rest, pretty sure he had no choice with Petrino once it came out he got his mistress a job in the AD. Had he just been fricking her it wouldn’t have been such a big deal.

I've always thought that the $20,000 "gift" was a big reason why Petrino was fired too.

He recommended the hire to Long and he can only approve the hires. So knew what was going on. But nothing he did involved the NCAA or an FBI investigation. It was a bout covering up any embarrassing or wrong doing on his part. To save his own face, he put Petrino under the bus. Kansas was smarter and fired Long.

Petrino never had the backing of the Arkansas good ole boys and certainly not Long. Nutt who underachieved made sure he got a long with the big name boosters and lasted way longer than he should have.

Long either asked questions before hiring Miles and got some answers and ignored them or he didn't truly vet the hire. Both are not what a good AD does.

I know, he would probably have "wanted" to fire Petrino as well. He needs to fix his want to.

He also knew that before hiring John L Smith that he was millions in dollars in debt and had the mental state of a squirrel.

The problem is no one knows what happened behind the scenes. The Arkansas media is so dishonest here and Long was a good liar.

Here are the Mr. Integrity hires after Petrino. I'm sure I'm missing more but these are the ones at the top of my head. John L Smith The Bert Jimmy Dykes Chris Bucknam

You forgot Dave Wannstadt at Pitt.

Long was into lazy hires where he concentrated on making a big splash with a known name without actually looking at things like fit, recent success, or suitability. And he ALWAYS thought he was the smartest guy in the room.

He was never going to fire Bert. Long was fired in November 2017. The excuse was that he wouldn't fire Bert but it was far more complicated than that.

Long knew about the frickup with the RF contract. That’s why he wouldn’t have ever fired Bert. He was trying to cover his arse.

RF? I may have blocked something but I don't know what you're referencing.

Jeff Long essentially admitted he knew about Les' issues when he said it was questionable if they could prove they didn't know when they hired Les. That is why the cut a deal instead of firing Les.

TLDR: Jeff Long knew before hiring Les and that is why he is being fired.
