My father said love what you do, have fun with it and you will never work a day in your life.

Coach Saban loves what he does, it is his job and his hobby.
Your father's a smart man. Life has taught me that enjoying your profession is, by far, the most important aspect of one's work life...more than money, power, notoriety or anything else.
Also, if a person truly enjoys what they do, then they're probably very good at it, and folks who are the best in their field, nearly always make an outstanding living....that's how life usually pans out.

Coach K is in his early 70s and doesn't get no where near the amount of retirement questions Saban gets.

2020 will be his last season. I'm sorry this bothers the inbreeders.

Excellent. I have always hoped he'd stick around long enough for the Bama fan base to turn on him.

And how often has that happened in your lifetime, the only coach we turned on was bill fricken curry, and i'm in my seventies

Yeah, his ego will have him coaching too long.

His ego will not allow him to pull a Bowden and coach too long. He has stated that he will step down if he doesn't feel like his team's are competing at a high level.

Those who have read Monte Burke's bio of Saban ... he grumbled about it afterward because he's such a control freak, but he semi cooperated with it and didn't hinder Burke from talking to any sources ... ought to know he ain't about to quit. Coaching football is what this guy does. Period. And he ain't leaving Bama, period. I always thought should he hang it up, he'd be a TV commentator in the studio on game days ... and he'd be masterful at it ... but I wouldn't be surprised if he's out somewhere at 85 years old coaching DBs for a Division III school as a volunteer.

It's actually an incredibly stupid question to ask him. He may, in his own mind, plan to retire after this season but he would never publicly say that at this time.

exactly, he is not an idiot, he cant say he will retire soon for recruiting purposes

I love what I do, and at soon to be age 61 the notion of retirement to me is sheer hell, and I intend to continue doing what I do until my employer tosses me out on the street or I get carried out in a black bag. I don't do relaxation and stopping and smelling roses makes you sneeze. That's why I admire Saban's dedication and drive.

I mean what is he supposed to say to that question? If he says anything other than what he said there will be rampant speculation every off season.

Fact is he is almost 70. He appears to be in pretty good shape but at some point he is gonna start to slip and I don’t see him being the type to hang around if he isn’t at the top of his game.

Saban obviously isn't leaving anytime soon and it's not surprising at all. Would you leave if you were him? Hate him or like him he's been pretty impressive. That being said, the time will come when it all ends. Hell the Roman Empire had a good run, but even that fizzled out.

I can't wait to see what life will be like after Saban. Lol it's too hard to even think what that will be like. The air will be fresher, burgers will taste better and beer will be colder. We would have parody. Lol, wow what a weird concept.

He is strong as a horse physically and has the health of a late middle aged guy. The only thing would be is he getting bored. I'd say not.

He will never go to the NFL. He will never go to a "city" to live. He will never leave warm weather. He will never take a lesser situation than he now has. And he will never leave Tuscaloosa based Mercedes. The game may change some but he won't and his possibilities of ever leaving Alabama before the 2025 season or later are slim and none. Unless he starts losing and Bama might. The ball ain't round.

The only equals in potential for him are:

* OSU up north in a city. No.

* Georgia. Kirbs has that. No.

* Texas in a city. No.

* UF No freaking way.

I’m surprised it’s still being asked. Obviously he’s someone who loves sharing his specific plans (especially life plans) with the media. Surely he’s touched on it before. I’m all but positive he has. When I think of Saban I think open book. His transparency and openness to these types of queries is legendary. In fact, one reason they may not remember him answering the question is the copious amount of notes they already have from his extensive pressers over the years.
