The 2011 team lost to LSU so that disqualifys them.

Why play next week, right?

2011 defense was better. I do think the quality of Bama's SEC opponents have declined, though.

How in the world would anyone even know this?

Here are where Alabama's opponents rank YTD in the ESPN FPI rankings:

#16 Florida State
#35 Texas A&M
#50 Fresno State
#52 Tennessee
#56 Colorado State
#58 Ole Miss
#65 Arkansas
#75 Vanderbilt

Bama looked good, but beatable against both Florida State and Texas A&M... the two best teams you've played so far this year.

Anyone who thinks this Bama team can be properly evaluated as the absolute best team in the land is not being honest at this point. Obviously the talent and coaching is there.... and there is a good chance Bama ends up being the nation's best team when it is all said and done. But how the heck would anyone ever know at this point?

Better than 27 other teams, in a year they weren’t supposed to even sniff the post-season.

You think 2011 was better than the 1979 team?

2011 team didn’t even win their conference much less own division. Never should have been in the title game

It would.

But the point still stands. We can't judge this Bama team against the 2011 team until Bama plays a team with a pulse.

2011 Bama played an 11-win Arkansas team, conference champion LSU, a 9-win Penn State team @Penn State, and @Florida (overrated at the time, but still).

2017 Bama has played...? A Texas A&M team that was happy to keep it within two scores?

We've had 10 teams go undefeated in years where we played at least 10 games. 2011 wasn't one of them.

Bama 2002 was the best.
Processed LSU 31-0 that year.
LSU had some low rent coach whose name escapes me.

Oh God. Y'all have got to be kidding me. This defense alone lost 4 starters who are now starting in the NFL. The least of which was considered Eddie Jackson and he is destroying it in the NFL. Then we lose our two best pass rushers in the first game this team if they show up can beat any and everyone in CFB no questions asked but it looks to me like the last three games they have been reading their own press. If they think they can roll their helmets on the field against LSU they will find themselves in a 3 way tie for the west.

The 2009 team went undefeated against a far tougher schedule. The SEC as a whole was significantly stronger in 2009 than it was in 2011 and Bama's non-conference schedule was stronger in 2009 as well.

2012 Alabama was better than 2011 Alabama.

I don't think anyone in this thread (especially the OP, that rascal) is actually saying this team is the best Alabama team. We don't have any idea.

2011. This one has a chance to set the bar higher, but there's a lot of season left
