He hired Sarkisian at UW.

He completely turned around what they were under Willingham and obviously did well enough to get hired by USC

It always makes me laugh when people try to undercut hires. It’s not like there is a hundred Nick Saban’s hanging around in conference USA waiting to get picked up by the big boys. Every coach you hire will have negatives. LSU, if they end up with Riley, will have hired the coach with the least amount of Negatives this cycle. That’s something to be excited about.

I'd rather Aranda but Riley isn't a bad hire, if he's the guy.

Aranda would be my choice too if I were an LSU fan. I also think Mark Stoops is not getting enough looks. Stoops has done a really good job at Kentucky.

Lot of similarities to Jimbo too.

Both took over large programs after serving as OC under the previous head coach

Both are seen as quarterback developers and call their own offenses

Both dominated weak conferences and brought in the most talent in those conferences yet lost a lot of games to equal or better teams

I'd personally rather Aranda

Sark maxed out at 7 wins at UW over his tenure.

Jimbo has done a good job but they have not really sniffed winning the west. In a year when LSU is reeling a bit and ALabama is replacing a lot of players, this was the year for him to do that. jmo

Yep and even then, Saban was not perfect when LSU hired him. Nobody knew it would going to be such a good hire.

And when Bama got him, he just fell in their laps. Sometimes it is better to be lucky with coaching.

I wouldn't want Jimbo because his offensive scheme is complicated and outdated. Also, his quarterback track record lately hasn't been great.

Riley is clearly still an elite offensive mind and probably the best "QB guru" in the country currently.

The plus for Fisher is he's shown he can hire a quality DC and bring in great defensive talent where Riley hasn't.

“How will this effect crawfish prices?”

As an LSU fan who wants Riley, this is the real question! Bravo.

I agree about Fisher, he hasn't really shown the ability to adapt to changing philosophies. If he would step back and let someone control the O, he may build a championship team at aTm. They def have the resources to have that.

I agree.

Football coaches can be awfully egotistical though.

Les Miles was fired for this very reason, he simply refused to modernize the offense and couldn't develop quarterbacks.

No one is sold on his defense, or ability to play hard nosed football.

He's not. However, the market is paying 9ish for mediocre, so Riley is worth more than mediocre level pay.

Wow. After years of taking about the Jimbo contract they’d offer almost double to a less proven coach because they’re so desperate. Embarrassing.

NO COACH Of ANY sport is worth $12million per year.....the buy out is the bigger concern, can lose 100% of the games and get the buy out .....

Riley has had HC OTJT at OU. LR was not quite ready but worked through hiring a defense coach and firing the old one and managing a program. IMO he won’t be a full fledged HC till he turns over OC and QB coaching and just supervises the whole thing and starts to scream at refs during th game and develops better signals for play calling in game.......

Now that it looks very possible we do land who we wanted, it has turned into "He really isn't any good anyway".

We called this last week. No matter who LSU hires, he's not gonna be a good coach according to a lot of people here.
