The number of teams with the resources & commitment to compete is certainly dwindling.

USC in the West & tOSU in the Midwest/East are the only programs that can sustain elite status consistently.

South/Southeast is where the HS talent & passion from the fan base exists. Clemson rose from the ashes, so I suppose it's possible for new players to hit the stage, but the absence of quality & interest from 3/4 of the country is taking it's toll.

Eventually CFB as we know it today will have game breaking changes (players getting paid will be the conduit) & the wealthier academically elite powers will enter the equation in a big way.

The top 3 teams in the sec are bama, georgia, and lsu.

If Oklahoma or osu has a loss, lsu gets in with their only loss to bama

Are all of you going to cry about how LSU "backdoored" their way into the playoff?

It’s such a shame Willie. They’ve moved on from complaining about the sun to the problem now being too many black people.

doesn't make any sense to say Clemson was in the ashes.

The majority of the reason for that is recruiting. Just look at where all the blue chippers are going right now. Same 5 or 6 teams.

At some point, they'll impose a salary cap based on the composite ratings of recruits. For example, your mix of 5 star, 4 star, 3 star recruits etc. cannot exceed a certain number (like 225 or something). Of course, when this happens, Saban will convince the recruiting sites to limit the guys he wants to 3 stars. In 2019, Trey Sanders would have been a 3 star.

Amen. Just got back to Houston from tailgating this weekend. Even if it was just Lamar, my family and I had a wonderful time.

We always do.

Well, you did not like your annual loss to Ole Miss, so you got the NCAA to take us down for a bunch of nothing. Now we have Matt Luke and the Getalong Gang for a coaching staff. You helped create this environment.

These crazy rule changes for “player safety” are also killing the game. All of the fair catches on kickoffs even on the 19 yard line bullshite have killed off kick returns plus they’ve almost regulated away tackling and defense.

The lack of elite programs or even good programs is hurting the sport.
Too many programs and not enough talent to go around. Back when there were only 30 or so real programs that recruits wanted to play for, the competition was better and more good games. Now there are too many teams that really don't deserve to be D1 and too many big schools scheduling garbage schools. That and the NCAA now being a complete joke at regulating cheating makes the sport less interesting as a whole.

They need to cut back on D1 schools and the talent will head to just those schools and force them to play each other and not weaker divisions schools. Then go back to enforcing the NCAA rules without letting certain schools cheat at will and taint the game.

Also get rid of the "You can't hit players too hard" rules.

Basically do a hard reset on everything back to atleast the 90's when everyone was decent and could lose on a given week and all the games were fun.

30+ seasons outside of top 5 is ashes, my post was centered on programs consistently in the mix for a NC.

I agree with a lot of points here but disagree that the sport is suffering from the same teams winning every year. That’s always been a problem with college football.

Go back to any random year from 1970 onward and tell me how many teams were truly championship caliber. It’s always 3 or 4 at most.

Alabama has diminished interest because their run is unprecedented but people have to keep that in mind. There’s never been a dynasty that’s lasted this long since the 1980s. And Alabama’s decline will come eventually. Whether from Saban retiring or someone doing what Saban did when he got to Alabama: implement a system and generate hype that overtakes them.

Clemson has been a true power for four years. History and statistics say that they probably have 2-3 years left until something happens to knock them off the pedestal.

I do think the corporate domination of the sport is killing it. Why would an Ole Miss or Arkansas or Missouri or Tennessee fan spend any money to lose their weekend to the game knowing that the only thing that is respected is winning a championship?

There’s no pageantry left and people are getting tired of supporting a sport that focuses on a 4-team playoff.

I think the easiest thing is to split p5 schools from the rest, drop the scholarship cap to 63 and only allow 18-20 signees per year. The top 5-6 would still get their chunk of elite talent, but there would be more to go around and it would make roster management much more important. FCS schools can only 63 active scholarships and I think FBS would benefit from that model.
