This may be true for now but come on man. The slogan it just means more may be corny but its true. The SEC was made up of the original schools that care the absolute most about college football in the country with the exception being Ohio State Michigan and possibly Notre Dame. It doesnt matter what you call the conference or how many schools you let in to whatever you want to call this organization but if you think schools like Alabama Florida Georgia LSU Auburn etc will just fade off and not take every advantage necessary to stay on top of the sport they love so much is just silly. The Big Ten (BTW its just a few schools not the entire conference) is just adjusting and being aggressive after being suppressed for so long. The traditional SEC powers will eventually figure out a way to get back on top. The fans the school the admins all depend upon it. I mean the govenor of LA was concerned about the LSU head coach. It just means too much to the economy of these states. There is a reason these schools stadiums are the largest in the world. If I were a betting man I would wager Bama LSU and Georgia all win a NC in the next 6 years.

The SEC has won 1 championship and odds are against a win this year. That's 1/4.

Mental note to revisit this thread when it's an all SEC Final.

What advantage did the SEC enjoy over the rest of college football that the conference no longer has?

I think that the difference now is because the SEC cant stack 5 star players anymore. Alabama and others used to have more 5 star players sitting on their bench than most teams had on their roster. Now those 5 star players are not going to sit on the bench when other teams will pay them to play. NIL evened the field a little bit, now its going to be how much money you can spread around to entice these players to play anywhere!

And some idiots want more conference games.

Kirby Smart warned everyone that 8 more conference losses would eliminate quality SEC programs from the bracket.

In addition, it means one less home game per school every other year. That takes money out of the local economies.

Exactly how much of a kickback did Sankey get for screwing over the SEC?

The SEC has always had the built-in advantage of being located in the states where most high school football talent comes from, so during the days of recruiting it was easier for Southern schools to convince recruits to stay close to home than it was for northern schools to convince them to come live and play in the frozen tundra. Nowadays the northern schools can just say, "How much money will it take to get you to come to our school?" The game has changed.

Of the last four years would be 21-24 cannot include the current the year because there is no champion, you can’t say that. If you’re talking about age of NIL, also would have started in 2021.

How did SEC top programs accumulate such a talent advantage prior to NIL

They paid the most.

and why can't they maintain it now?

Everyone else started paying more.

I acknowledged that this season isn't over but that the odds of an SEC champ are long.
January '22 is the end of the '21 season, the first year of NIL. That's why I started with UGA's championship in January '22. That was the first NIL-era title

The other leagues worked towards this for years. Especially the big 10.

How are the odds long? UGA has the 2nd or 3rd best odds to win.

It’s a much more diversified portfolio now. You’ve added the Big Ten into the fold
