It really was man. Que the CBS music and hype leading up to those games. The SEC as a whole had more iconic coaches then. Petrino at Arkansas, Kevin Sumlin at Texas A&M, Mark Richt at Georgia. While they weren't all the best coaches they were characters loved them or hate them you knew them all. Product was so much better back then.

Given his previous troubles I dont think he would do well at LSU. While no fault of the university a man controls his actions look at Ed, Miles story and now allegedly about Kelly, something about LSU has these men focused on something else other than football. Maybe in his prime but I think he doesnt have the fire in him anymore. Saban was so unique in that way. Maybe Kirby but I havent seen another coach keep competing for as long as he did.

Probably trying to stay relevant. He has done horribly at USC. I was one of the people excited that we may get him last coaching search. Crazy how things work out. I dont think he has that competitive edge in him to thrive in the SEC.

Who cares he probably thinks Michigan is the best job. What matters is the potential coaches and in their minds LSU is one of the elite jobs in the country.

Yeah I leaned towards kiffin or lanning for 3 years. Portal wouldn't catch you up to the Bama or Georgia of the world with 1 or 2 years even with Kirby or Saban as coach. 10 years is a long time and Franklin is not terrible but unsure if he could get it done even with that much time. Freeman at 4 is interesting also but he doesnt know SEC like lanning or Kiffin.

Which of these coaches in the given time frame would be most likely to win a National Championship at LSU following this year with current players and access to 1 portal class each year? Who would you lay your money on to get it done?

If LSU wants Lane they will wait. You dont hire a coach to save one recruiting cycle. Better to hire THE coach than a coach. (For the record im not saying he is) just saying you get the guy for long term success of the program not short term goals like recruits.

Right not only for the arse kicking that put the wheels in motion but to show through Elko that it is better to cut ties with a lame duck coach (Jimbo) take your hits and come back quick. Yall set the precedent and for this as a Tiger fan I thank you!

Exactly chicken he is a lame duck coach. No respectable coach will come be the oc under him. Also imagine how easy it is to recruit against LSU if Kelly comes back.

Not the same A&M just like that wasn't the same Vandy. Rest of the league is getting better, we are regressing. Make no mistake Texas A&M will beat us and honestly if they do, I hope Bama and Oklahoma does as well. Give me a quick plummet over a steady decline.

Look at all those years of mediocrity under Jimbo, they bit the bullet paid the buy out Got elko and now look at them. Playoff contention and a very good team. Lets not take as long as they did to get rid of their lame duck coach.

Our defense is back! We are so back! That defense is nasty! We look like the LSU of old! That defense will come out impose and strike fear into other opposing QBs. There is no weakness and it shows. Pressure can come from anywhere. This older tiger loves and appreciates this type of football. We are so back!
