The team put together an 11-1 record. If that is enough for a playoff spot, they should get one. Period.
They don't deserve a playoff spot with 0 wins over a ranked opponent. The got smoked at home by the only ranked team they played.

If their plan is Freeman, then he’d be a real coach and would start immediately.

I agree. But that is not what is being asked.
The question is if ND would be in with Kelly, should they still be in without him?
My answer to that is absolutely yes.

The players deserve whatever they have coming to them.

This is the problem with the committee. Every year something new is a factor for the 4 teams getting in. If games happen where Notre Dame can get in. Then they should. The team is 11-1. Regardless of Kelly not being there. It makes for an easy excuse to exclude them and what happens next time when a team has something happen?

It should definitely be in consideration. If a team starting QB was injured...and everything else is even in comparison with another team...
you got to go with the 'best' teams....
Its more than win and loses...
SEC teams that are 11-1 mean more than Notre Dame going 11-1. Hell SEC teams going 10-2 mean more than Notre Dame going 11-1 in most cases.

Hard to say. They could probably still beat LSU without their head coach, and y'all seem to think you are one of the 4 best teams.

Absolutely
Why punish the kids who did the work over a single guy quitting ?

They'll take Bama's spot most likely.

We beat Georgia with a human condom as a coach, what's the difference?

Good lord, your take is ridiculous. If a head coach got COVID and couldn’t coach, would the team be removed. If the teams best player got hurt in practice do we switch them out for the team that is fifth. If they are deemed to be one of the four best teams after this weekend, they get the berth they earned and deserve.

Should the players be punished further?
