You are mistaken. They finished number 1 at the conclusion of the 1992 season. They were ranked number 1 at various times in 1993.

No, I’m not. I mentioned the 1992 national championship. Hell, I was at the damn game.

Second, I only recall FSU, ND and Nebraska being ranked #1 at some point in 1993. I’m pretty sure FSU started #1 and held that ranking until ND beat them late in the year. By that time Alabama (preseason #2) had fallen out of the picture.

So no, the great Alabama did not sit atop one single preseason or regular season poll in all the years between Bryant and Saban. Pretty pathetic for a program that supposedly “made” Saban and Bryant who they are.

Gee, after that historic beatdown a few weeks back you'd think that's the last person you'd want to see?

2014 -OSU scribbled all over Alabama .You remember that one ... last yr was an asterisk , covid , our QB had busted ribs , our #1 tailback goes out on first series , ... this yr we will see Nicky again and it will be 2 out of the last 3 over BAMA . O$U is going to be unbeatable this yr .WAY too much firepower . Wait till u see our new QB ...Better than Justin Fields . Now go get fired up for Mercer and The Citadel or whoever else u play in the non conf

What could possibly go wrong? This sounds like a sure thing to me.

Michigan beats Ohio State this year and OSU doesn’t even make the playoffs. You heard it here first.

I agree, because I'm not an Alabama homer who believes in the mystical BAMA fairy dust that doesn't exist.

No mystical fairy dust needed, Alabama does its talking on the field.

OK, you explain why Alabama is almost #1 in every category that counts in college football.

You explain why since the 1920 Alabama has won at least one NC every decade (expect the 50's and 80's.)

You explain why Alabama has 4 coaches that have won multiple NCs at Alabama.

You explain why Alabama has had the two of the greatest coaches of all-time.

You explain why Alabama has a winning record over every team they have played 10 or more times.

No homer needed to see excellence, it is right there.

Why could he win one at Alabama but not at Georgia?

Because it is Alabama.

Look you are just throwing things at the wall and see if it sticks. Evidently there is something special about Alabama, whether you want to admit it or not.

So Kirby would win more championships at Alabama than Saban would at Georgia because "it's Alabama?"

You people are so delusional

Like what?

Damn, Bammers really hate this question, you can never get a straight answer.

Because of his past success, Saban could completely turn any program around and make them the next dominant program.

I will use Coach Bryant to make my point. He was a great coach, but put him in another program, and I am not sure he makes them dominant. He had his chances at Maryland, Kentucky and Texas AM (and trust me, what he did at AM was the same thing he did at Alabama

The same is true about Coach Saban. He was at several schools, and only won 1 NC outside of Alabama. He is the GOAT coach, but it is what Alabama is that made him that.

Maybe it is the lack of interfering boosters (that he can control), maybe it is the rabid fan base that helps him draw players (and helped other Alabama coaches as well.)

Maybe it is the calming influence of T'town as opposed to the hectic city life.

Maybe it is the other teams in the SEC that players want to compete against.

Maybe it is the total package of Alabama (titles, bowls, TV, etc.)

But it is something, and only Alabama has it.

You might want to cool your jets as that is the only time OSU has beaten Alabama.

We do not hate it, Alabama is the pinnacle of college football, and has the stats to prove it. Alabama is just plain better than your team.

But the answer is Alabama is Alabama, nobody else close.

Someone has to be #1 but that doesn’t necessarily mean it’s for special reasons that cannot be replicated by others under similar circumstances.

In the end, winning is about the players and coaches, and in many cases, a decision on a whim (not an inherent advantage) is the difference between dynasty and afterthought.

What if Saban stays at LSU? What if Tom Brady gets picked 198? Both of those decisions would have profoundly changed CFB and NFL history without there being anything inherently special about LSU, Bama, the Patriots, and whoever the hell picked 198 in the 2000 draft.

Sometimes the stars just align. In Bama’s case they have had the game’s two best coaches for about half of the post WW2 era.

2 titles in five years at Bama vs 1 in five years at LSU.

He'd finally got the program at LSU on track and was just about to hit his stride when the NFL came calling.

Again, there's literally no reason he couldn't have done the same things at LSU that he's done at Alabama. Maybe he would've won even more titles.

Maybe, maybe not, he did not show anything like what he has become until he got to Alabama. The truth be told, neither did Coach Bryant. Both were considered good coaches, but until they got to Alabama, neither were considered great coaches

Many of you want to point to 1983-2006 for Alabama not being special, yet Alabama had a 171-105-1 record with ncaa sanctions, with accusations of the ncaa swirling around hurting recruiting, with lousy coaches.

That is still in the top 30 %, and top 30 in wins

Overall Alabama is 2nd in win %, barely, this year Alabama should be #1-and remember that is with all the forfeits.

Alabama is 3rd in wins, but should be #2 by the end of this year
