Were you ranked #1 and #2 in the poll(s) that everyone agreed were the ones that mattered going into the season? Then sure, why not? I know he needs the attention. Do you?

Umm, no. What does going into the season have to do with being the best team?

So I guess Willy Taylor and I are truly the #1 and #2 posters on the rant, since a poll was taken. Why shouldn't we claim that title?

Go ahead

Honestly the speed of the game and the spread offenses makes it a lot harder on officials in today's game.

It was pretty easy calling games back when it was running between the tackles with the occasional pass mixed in.

Now they have so many styles and the hurry up puts a lot more stress on the refs and that is similar to what is happening in the NFL

I like the idea of the overhead official that can review things that way that the NFL is talking about. I think it would help eliminate the on field coaches who have to do it in real time.

The main thing back in those days was spotting the ball and if it was a fumble or completed catch but for the most part they got those plays right except for determining when player was down.

You misunderstood my post. I'm saying heading into the 64' season, there were two polls that everyone acknowledged were the ones that mattered the most: the AP and Coaches. That was the system that was in place at the time to determine the national champion.

2003 Swindle in the Swamp against FSU.

Ron Zook is never fired
Notre Dame hires Urban Meyer in 2004
Tebow commits to Alabama in 2005
Nick Saban never goes to Alabama

I don't think that game really sealed his fate though, right? Wasn't it the 2004 Mississippi State game that was the final straw for him?

Alabama claims what poll named them national champions. The AP and coaches/UPI. Why would Alabama not claim both major polls for a season?

Exactly. Name a school that doesnt claim an AP or UPI national championship they were awarded

Bama has 6 NC'S they don't recognize that were given by respectable wire services and nat'l News outlets at that time in history. Pre AP and UPI.. Plus 1966 was a crime for the ages! Bama still recognized by the senate yet we don't claim it either. So, let those that are on the outside cast the stones of envy at the CAPSTONE of college football. It's great to be the king!

Here's a reason to abstain from questionable claims: it would strengthen the credibility of remaining claims by making you look like you had standards.

The voters are very fallible. Does anyone think BYU was really the best team in 1984 or did Michigan have an ice cube's chance in hell against Nebraska in 1997?

Some wizard designed a way to retroactively strip teams of wins and titles when the NCAA got involved. My suggestion: inventory your history. Evaluate the quality of claims being cognizant that no 2 pieces of glory are identical and equal; consider relegating ones that you yourself would call bullshite on if AU or Tennessee claimed them.

If you can't do out of reverence for the concept of accomplishment, then consider doing it out respect for your greatest heroes who really earned something other heroes did not entirely do.

TL;DR: Form your own judgement and allow yourself to trust it.

It’s funny.

I took time to copy/quote all that, but didn’t read it. Just to say this:

“Blah blah blah. No one cares how many championships you thought you won.”

Yeah. There’s absolutely no way programs are going to NOT claim major poll titles.

Yes Alabama does claim more major poll titles than anyone else. Because they have more than anyone else.

I'll go out on a limb here and say the MU CU 1990 Fifth Down game would have flipped to a W for the Tigers.

Of course, that was such a cluster...who knows?

LSU @ Mississippi State 1999.
MSU player was down before crossing the goal line as time was running out, but crawled the last yard or two, and it was called a touchdown. Replay showed it wasn’t even close. Only State win over LSU between 1992 and 2014.

I don't disagree with you about the call in '99, but on the flip side, I think the 2000 game in Baton Rouge goes in State's favor if review is in effect. Toefield had a run at one point in the game where it appeared he fumbled at the 1 or 2 but it was ruled a TD. LSU ended up winning in OT.

They had replay and the refs still somehow still managed to completely botch at least 3 critical calls. Instant replay is sham in Jergens Hair.
