No, because they will have played one less game than all teams who have played in and won their conference.

Neither did Oklahoma State [play in a conference championship]. Who cares if they’re a conference champ if they didn’t play an extra game

Would Alabama deserve a second shot at LSU in the playoffs?

If there are no more deserving one loss teams, sure.

I'm not one of those dogmatic puritans who thinks you need to win your conference or even your division to be considered worthy of playing for a national championship.

It is a shame that some teams are essentially punished for playing a conference title game (see Wisconsin and Auburn last year) but by the same token some teams have used that extra game as a springboard to play for the national title (see LSU 2003 and 2007, UGA 2017 and countless other examples). I don't know how to rectify that and it's a conversation worth having. It's not a perfect system.

But I think what the OP is really trying to say is that Bama likely gets in the playoff regardless of what happens this weekend unless LSU absolutely annihilates them which we all know isn't happening.

Just like they did last year and in 2011 and would have in 2013 if there had been a 4 team playoff.

Bama is the only loseable game left on LSU’s schedule, including the SECCG.

I think it's pretty silly to assume they couldn't lose to UGA.

deserved has nothing to do with it, it seems to bother LSU fans that the committee selects the 4 best teams, it would be hard to say Alabama is not included in that group, even if they have a loss

Why even play the rest of the season then?

No. There needs to be a "fairness" element added to the selection process which ensures that two teams who have already played do not play again for the championship. Otherwise, you are telling the team that won the first game that it has to beat the other team twice to win the championship while the team that lost the first game only has to beat the other team once. This is unfair to the team winning the first match and should be accounted for as they make their selections. The committee should simply choose which team of the two it feels is more deserving for the playoffs then eliminate the other team from consideration. They had their shot during the regular season against each other.
