Makes sense. I appreciate the detailed response.

Anyone have improvements in their marathon times using zone 2 training? I recently started doing zone 2 training runs for the initial 80% with zone 4/5 for the last 20%. I have less problems with injuries since starting but wonder how it will effect race times. I’m running the Tokyo Marathon in March to complete the 6 world majors.

I did my 3rd New York City marathon yesterday in 4:26. The weather was great and the crowds phenomenal. Now on to Tokyo in March to complete the 6 world majors. My legs really tired at mile 18 forcing me walk some. After Tokyo, I think I’ll race only half marathons or less. My body breaks down to much with marathons now at age 53.

Neither one of these teams are playoff caliber.

Bryce Young was a much higher pick than Daniels will be and he suited up for his team regardless in a non playoff bowl game. Will Daniels do the same?
Alabama took out an insurance policy to protect him from injury. I wonder if LSU would do the same.

Do you think FSU would beat Bama today if they played each other, even if they played in Tallahassee?
Depends on which Bama team shows up. The one that played Auburn or the one that played Georgia.

LSU 45. BAMA 34
re: Can LSU translate this increase in sports success to better ACADEMICS?

Around 2015, I researched the costs for my kids to go to out of state schools as I live in Georgia. At the time, Alabama gave better scholarships for similar ACT/SAT scores compared to LSU. I would start by increasing LSUs awards. It will attract more of the out of state kids.

I've got Mint Mobile which uses T-Mobile. I had no problems.

Flying to Kansas City, then driving to Omaha with my son who lives in Topeka.

Not looking good for the Tigers. We are not peaking at the right time. I’m not optimistic we get to Omaha.

The two times I paid to replace an engine, I’ve later regretted it. It just seems like everything starts to break afterwards. I will never do it again. Cut your losses.
re: Just had my annual physical and got my blood panel back

Based on your numbers, assuming you do not take blood pressure lowering medication and your blood pressure is normal, your 10 year heart attack risk based on predictors is around 1%. Based on this, you would not normally require a Statin. As a physician, the concerning thing is your elevated coronary calcium score. I am generally ordering this test when I have a patient who is on the fence about beginning a statin. If the coronary calcium score is elevated, I typically begin a Statin. Regarding ordering advanced lipid panels, I do not order these, as they do not change what I do most of the time. And when they are ordered, they almost always suggest starting a Statin, which can be determined with a basic lipid panel as well. Statins are not the end all answer, however. Typically you need to treat at least 30 patients with a Statin to prevent one heart attack. My recommendation is to eat a good diet. Rather than wasting your money on supplements, eat fresh fruit and vegetables, as they are cheaper and better for you. Exercise regularly. Live each day like it’s your last.

You can join one of the approved charities to get a race bib with no qualifying time required. The World Major Marathons all have this option as well. The major difference being this is the only way I know of to get in Boston if you are not fast enough to time qualify (for me as a 51 yo male it required <3:25 marathon.) The minimum amount you have to raise is usually 5-10K.

I ran Boston yesterday setting a PR at 3:54. My quads are more sore than normal which I presume is due to the first few miles being downhill. I was amazed at how the city really gets behind the race. Next up for me is the Berlin Marathon in September in my quest for the Abbott world majors.
ETA. I wore my LSU visor while running. I bet I heard over 400 Geaux Tigers.

they require covid vaccination
Boston Marathon does not require COVID vaccination proof this year. The only thing I saw was that you have to wear masks on the bus while be transported to the starting area.
Regarding "Pay to Play", I see it from both sides. It is a remarkable feat to qualify for Boston under the minimum time limits. To distinguish those who qualify vs. those who are charity runners, I always followup with the statement that I am not fast enough to time qualify(yet) but instead am a charity runner. The charities really do benefit. I know the team I am running with (Red Cross of Massachusetts) has approximately 65 runners. Each has to fundraise a minimum of 10K or their credit card is charged this amount. That is 650K right there. This does not even include the entry fee for the Marathon which is around $300 more.

For a charity runner spot did you have to raise funds or "Write a check"?
what makes this a bucket list race for you?
I wrote a check for the minimum donation required (10K)as well as rose another 1K in donations. I normally donate to different charities but this year most went to the Red Cross.
Regarding bucket list race, I want to complete all 6 of the Abbott World Major Marathons. I have already done two: Chicago (2004) and New York City twice (2005 and 2022). Boston will be my third star. I am also registered to run the Berlin Marathon on 9/24/23. That only leaves London and Tokyo.
re: Turkey hunting is frustrating

I called in a nice gobbler two days ago. I got out in the woods before light. No gobbles whatsoever. I sat down in a wooded area where I know they have fed in the past. Fresh turkey scratching’s. The leaves were dry so I could hear everything. No decoys. Only heard minimal hen clucks. I’ve learned over the years that it’s best to call very little. The other thing I’ve learned is to be patient. I will yelp very softly around every 20 to 30 minutes. I’ll then put the box call down and wait. On this most recent hunt, within one minute of putting the box call down, I heard what sounded like a deer running through the woods. It turned out to be this gobbler running right at me full speed. He never gobbled once. When he got within 30 yards, he slowed down and I shot him. Boy, it was exciting. Only the second one I’ve called in successfully.

Peachtree Road Race
I’ve run it for the last several years. I run with my son. As he never trains like he should, we always have to walk over half of it. The only plus to that is that free beer is everywhere. If I’m going to walk, might as well have a drink. The best part of the race is people watching.

Bucket list race for me. I’m running in the Boston Marathon on 4/17/23 as a charity runner for the Red Cross. I’m not fast enough to time quality (sub 3:25) so this was my only other option. My PR is 4:09 which was back in 2006 Marine Corps Marathon. I hoping for 4 hours or less. We shall see.
