At the end of the day he has a national championship (the only measure that matters) and Gus does not.

I have serious doubts about Gus's ability to win a title. He just doesnt have the recruiting pizzaz of Chiz. Sure Gus gets high ranked classes, but he doesnt get the INDIVIDUALS who can make a difference at QB the way Chiz did.

Chiz had one down year and Auburn overreacted.

He won a title in his 2nd season. Gus has yet to win one. They should have kept Chizik...I agree

Do you know what Gene Chizik’s head coaching record is without Gus Malzahn as his offensive coordinator?

5-19 at Iowa State
3-9 at Auburn

8-28

I haven't looked into the decision at all, but isn't it likely there was more going on that we might not know about? He didn't get along with some important people, or made the wrong people mad. I agree 1 bad year is a quick trigger, but it had to be a little more than that. One bad year, plus people heard him saying all the wrong things, or something else like that. I mean it took us 4 pretty bad, but not losing season bad, years to can Les.

He went winless in the SEC and completely lost the team. Auburn doesn’t go winless in conference because of lack of talent. They quit on him. Hard to recover from that.

I remember Larry Coker who won a national Championship at Miami. then he was fired after a few years. there. He took over a team that had a chance to win it all. It was Jimmy Johnson's team that he build it. This is the exact same situation I am see with Chiz.

He was within 10 seconds or so from winning one his first season as AU's head coach. Everyone here had their doubts if he could even win 9 games in a season. Since then he's made the NC, won the SEC, won the West twice with Saban at Alabama. Little ol' Auburn is alright. Now if he crashes and burns on offense this season, yeah, I'll be worried for sure.

The real reason is that he lost 42-14 and 49-0 his last two Iron Bowls. That's what matters at AU. Sadly, Jacobs didn't care about the NC. As long as he was competitive against Bama, Chizik would have been there forever.

Since the 2013 NCG, Gus has been a terrible coach (outside of two games last year). Even then, he was humiliated in the SECCG. But he beat Alabama a couple of times and they gave him $49 million dollars and a ridiculous 7 year contract. Meyer money for Freeze results.

Gene, I know it has been a rough past few years for you, but posting on message boards, especially the rant, isn't going to make you feel any better.

1988 was Johnson's last season at Miami. Coker won in 2001. I believe Butch Davis is the name you're looking for
