Making the playoffs will no longer be an achievement.
It raises the bar for more schools than it lowers it for. “Making a bowl” won’t cut it anymore.

Nahhhhh
Going off of the AP poll after the final regular season game, since 2000:
Texas would've made the 12-team playoff 11/23 times
Oklahoma would've made the 12-team playoff 18/23 times

The one bright spot in all of this is that, MAYBE, the remaining non playoff bowls will go away. That would certainly lighten my mood with regard to the 12-16 team playoff. No more "6 wins and you're in participation trophies"

I will never understand this attitude.
If you don't like it, don't watch.
Why do you have to spit on a game that other teams are playing?
I love bowl season.
Out of conference games are much more exciting than the same in conference crap that we get with divisional play.

How many of these do you suspect that you would have won?
Would have liked our chances in 2008 and 2015, were clicking on all cylinders by the end of both years and had beaten the national champs in the regular season.
2009 don’t think we’d have gotten in, 2003 could’ve happened would’ve made it to second round w Eli before being bounced by USC or LSU
2014 too depleted at years end
2021 think we could’ve beaten Baylor at home but lost the next round at Bama.

And do you truly believe this translates to a conference that actually plays defense?

Really only 4 teams will be contenders most years. That being Alabama, Georgia, LSU, and Tennessee.
The rest of the league isn't very competitive.

If you don't watch college football and/or don't know what you're talking about, maybe you'd be best suited not to comment
ETA:
By the same parameters I set forth above for Texas and Oklahoma, since 2000:
Mississippi State would've made the 12-team playoff 1/23 seasons

Going to 9 SEC games will add another L to half the teams

Outside of 2020 and 21 wouldn't they have made it about every year going back 10/12 years? I think we can expect to see them in a playoff a lot.

Not Auburn. They lose their non-conf games already.

In the last 10 years, they finished in the top 12 of the BCS/CFP rankings 3 times (2012-2021). That would be 2012, 2018 and 2019.
In the last 12 years, 5 times (add 2010 and 2011).

1998 Arkansas team ranked 11th in both polls should he listed.

Thanks for the history lesson. Guess I missed where I mentioned Mississippi State anywhere.

Interesting. I guess I was thinking that because the Bama/LSU game usually determined a ticket to the SEC title game. Those were some good LSU teams that got deflated after. Still, those numbers are real good.
The playoff will dictate the performance of a lot of teams down the stretch I believe.
