And do you truly believe this translates to a conference that actually plays defense?

We'll be better than we have been in the Big 12.

Texas is leaving a conference where every team's biggest game of the season is UT. And every player is out to prove they should've been offered by Texas.

I'm excited about joining a conference that does not care about us or see us as a threat.

Our recruiting will improve because A&M no longer gets to play their "represent Texas in the big leagues" card.

We'll be in the top 12 more often than not.

I do not watch.

Why do you have to spit on a game that other teams are playing?

Because it waters down the bowl season. You may not feel that it does, but the general consensus has been that there are far too many bowl games being played.

Now, the number I prefer may be far fewer than what others would prefer, but never have I heard "Man, there are too few bowl games!" Or "Man, there are just enough bowl games!"

We definitely aren't in the "Goldilocks" zone.

Out of conference games are much more exciting than the same in conference crap that we get with divisional play.

I do not disagree, but neither do I care to see 6-6 xxx from the Mountain West vs 7-5 xxx from the ACC.

Maybe this is another "old man yells at clouds" moment for me. I don't know. I'm generally open minded.

But, I know why I stopped watching the NFL, which I dearly loved, and I see D-1 football following the same path. We are watching it's uniqueness disappear in our own time.

And that, my friend, isn't an opinion. You may agree with the changes, or agree with me, but you can't deny that it is falling in line with every other format that is offered across the board.

Guess I missed where I mentioned Mississippi State anywhere.
You didn't. I did. If you, a "Mississippi State fan" can mention Texas, can I not do the same?

Sorry it hurt your feelings.

Would have liked our chances in 2008 and 2015, were clicking on all cylinders by the end of both years and had beaten the national champs in the regular season.

2009 don’t think we’d have gotten in, 2003 could’ve happened would’ve made it to second round w Eli before being bounced by USC or LSU
2014 too depleted at years end
2021 think we could’ve beaten Baylor at home but lost the next round at Bama.

This is fair. Thank you for the reply and detailed explanation.

Making the playoffs will no longer be an achievement.

I think it will just result in a new concept of “making the final four” like we have in basketball and analogous to making the CWS.

Lol

Does the regular season water down the regular season?

Does divisional play water down divisional play?

People like to complain.
Dawg fans evidently complain about Searels and Kendall Milton. It is stupid. College football fans complaining about football matchups that are pretty evenly scaled? Lol

Let me guess. You hate high school and division 2 football too. The teams aren't good enough.

If it is a close game or the mountain west blows out the acc school, then I love it.

I don't mind a playoff because it is more games.
I mind the playoff because it makes the regular season worthless.
UGA would be in the playoff 11 out of the past 12 years. It should be more difficult than that.

The truth is that the 4 team playoff already killed the regular season / bowl system irreparably.

It absolutely murdered bowls...all of them outside of the designated playoff bowls, no question about that.

I believe the regular season was largely kept intact, at the least in terms of the gravity of a loss. Moving to twelve will undoubtedly change that, and I hate it, however we don't have much choice at this point b/c the playoff train as left the station.

An expanded playoff helps the sport and hopefully it gets rid of these 6-6 type bowls. Maybe these players will stop opting out.

Aren't you 6-6?

Agents are telling kids to opt out. The agents don't want to damage their meal ticket. They may be right (but their intentions aren't pure). Nothing will change.

That 2015 Arkansas team had some close losses. 51-50 state, 16-12 Toledo and 28-21 OT A&M. A five loss team that should have only lost to Texas Tech and Bama.

Yes with four losses by 13 points and began the year ranked in the top 20, losing six games don't deserve going to a bowl.

Once every 3 or 4 years

Texas

Since 2010, Texas has not had less than 4 losses in a full regular season. And that's playing in their own conference they built and controlled with only one other team (OU) who has been relevant on the national stage.

They would have been 0-12 qualifying for a 16 team in that stretch. The only thing keeping them from being Nebraska is 800 miles of prairie grass.

They will be the slightly lesser equivalent of a UCLA when they come into the SEC.

Really only 4 teams will be contenders most years. That being Alabama, Georgia, LSU, and Tennessee.

The rest of the league isn't very competitive.

Alabama, Auburn, LSU, Texas A&M, Texas, Oklahoma, Georgia, Florida, and Tennessee are all capable of pulling in the type of talent required to win national titles given the right coach and circumstances. The entire rest of the league outside of Vandy has had 10 win seasons in fairly recent history.

This is what will make a 12 team playoff so intriguing. How interesting would it have been to see Dak Prescott's MSU, Manziel's aTm, Ryan Mallett's Arkansas, or Spurrier's Carolina teams in a playoff?

You would piss away 15 practices and an exhibition game because you are bitter.

No wonder Arkansas is a 6-6 team.
They don't know how to get better.

This is literally the problem with 12 teams. Mediocre program makes playoffs 30% of the time. Might as well call it NFL v2.
