Would think the sec and the big 10 would be the last conferences to fall to that scam.

If Alabama goes PE I am out. frick em. They are trying to turn college football into the next big profit center. Anytime equity money takes over companies get destroyed as soon as there is a positive return on the investment and they need to put money back in.. Private equity is the horde of locusts the Bible referred to.

Great question. The value of programs is at its peak because the interest in college teams will be eroded by the move toward professional status/mercenary character of players, evolving science on head trauma, the primacy of the nfl that provides the same product but better, and an increasingly transient population that doesn’t have regional loyalty. Sorry to be Debbie Downer but I can’t help what I loved most about college ball versus what I see now. I see what I see. Maybe an old fart’s view, but perhaps also true.

Could PE sell one team to another?
Say they buy Auburn. Fire a bunch of people, sell of assets, then sell remainder to whoever.
Why would PE want to be in college sports?
The “value” of it will go down from here. We are at peak sports.

In effect, they already have….its just not organized private equity yet.

Texas Athletics Department is sitting on top of a gold mine. Why would they EVER let PE get their nose under the tent? Never gonna happen at Texas. Besides, Texas sports is a play thing for a lot of Big Cigars.
Thinking about it a bit more, if an SEC team commitments to PE and that team is or becomes a competitor to Texas, I could see a Texas Big Cigar person or gang becoming influential with the PE firm of that competitor. Needless to say that's a two edge sword. Bad joo-joo gonna come from PE investment if allowed.

Stop and look at this from 50,000 ft. All SEC schools are state institutions except Vanderbilt. State institutions can tap the muni market for funds in the 3-4% range. Of course, doing so would draw scrutiny on the purpose. New facilities to grown with the fan base? Probably. Using the money on NIL? Probably not. Thus, the only reason to go to PE is a crack fix to use it for a short term, non-infrastructure purpose. Its a payday loan at usury rates (15%+)

That's just like your opinion, man. I think the NFL is boring. Why? I don't know. But it just seems phony and lifeless. Kind of like where college football is heading.

In pro sports, there is the regular season adn the playoffs. The product isn't worth watching until the playoffs when the passions rises.

That's easy. Because they know that a school will leech its students for tuition money to cover the growing PE financial demands. And when that is no longer enough, the state will come to rescue with taxpayer funds. And when that is no longer enough, the federal government will bail the whole lot of them out - by printing money if need be. It's potentially a diamond mine inset in a gangue of pure gold.
They just have to scam their greedy hooks in first....

No more loyalty in conferences anymore
It’s gonna happen with the deficits athletic departments are running and I can see some schools getting out of the business entirely

I don’t think people are as “addicted” to college sports as they once were.
2 generations ago in the South, college football was the king of fall weekends.
Demographics have changed. The cost of attending games has dramatically increased. Entertainment options abound.
I do not think the current model will continue to build the devoted fanbases of the 1980s/90s/2000s.
When it’s presented as win the nattie of your team is dogshit, when “rivalries” are done away with for scheduling purposes, and when players decide who to play for every few months, I don’t see the value in following it closely.
Everything is monetized. The patches will proliferate to a NASCAR jumpsuit level eventually.

I don’t like it. I think it’s coming. More commercialization of universities athletic departments for facilities, payment of players etc…
