How long would/should a school put up with 9-11 wins every year but no national championships.

UGA is funding a very expensive team right now under Kirby. They want to win a national title at any cost and that's what they're doing right now. I think this is UGA's year. They are playing lights out on defense and they are arguably the most talented team in college football.

There’s a big difference between 9 and 11 wins. 9 wins 5 years in a row gets you fired at LSU/Bama/UGA/maybe Florida and Auburn. 9 wins 5 years in a row gets you $75m at Aggie, and permanent Safety everywhere else.
10/11 wins yearly keeps you safe everywhere except maybe Bama

If he's winning 10-11 games a year for an extended period, he'll eventually win a championship. Schembechler is the only one I can think of who never broke through.
But there's a huge difference between 10-11 wins with conference championships, CCG appearances, major/playoff bowl games, etc. and going 9-4 for ten years

At Auburn, that's totally dependent on what happens in the LSU, UGA, and Bama games. Gus averaged right around 8 wins in his tenure. But every time his seat would get white hot, he'd pull one out against the rivals.
Those games just hold more weight, rightly or not.
