At Arkansas it would most likely mean permanent job security.

That’s what got me thinking about it.
Because you’d want to get rid of them, but you also don’t want to be Nebraska on the fall off.

UGA is funding a very expensive team right now under Kirby. They want to win a national title at any cost and that's what they're doing right now. I think this is UGA's year. They are playing lights out on defense and they are arguably the most talented team in college football.

Alabama- 3 years
Auburn- if they’re beating bama, 9 years. If not 6 years
Arkansas- until the motorcycle crash
LSU- 7 years
Miss State- as long as they want
Ole Miss- as long as they want
Texas A&M- beating Texas? As long as they want. If not, 8 years

Florida- 8 years
Georgia- 9 years
South Carolina- 22 years
Tennessee - 6 years and they’d hire a replacement coach that’d have them with losing seasons consistently
Kentucky- for ev er
Vanderbilt- see above
Missouri- see above

There’s a big difference between 9 and 11 wins. 9 wins 5 years in a row gets you fired at LSU/Bama/UGA/maybe Florida and Auburn. 9 wins 5 years in a row gets you $75m at Aggie, and permanent Safety everywhere else.

10/11 wins yearly keeps you safe everywhere except maybe Bama

Can't ask South Carolina because they've never had a coach accomplish that.

Fans are always going to want more once some level of expectation is met.

Spurrier for 3 years in a row had 11 wins, then clowney was gone.

If he's winning 10-11 games a year for an extended period, he'll eventually win a championship. Schembechler is the only one I can think of who never broke through.

But there's a huge difference between 10-11 wins with conference championships, CCG appearances, major/playoff bowl games, etc. and going 9-4 for ten years

The other side of firing a 9 win coach isn’t always the next level. Look at Nebraska.

How long would/should a school put up with 9-11 wins every year but no national championships.

Alabama- 3 - 4 years
Auburn- 5-8 years
Arkansas- 10 years
LSU- 5-8 years
Miss State- 10 years
Ole Miss- 10 years
Texas A&M- 5-8 years

Florida- 5-8 years
Georgia- 5-8 years (Mark Richt)
South Carolina- 10 years
Tennessee- 10 years
Kentucky- 10 years
Vanderbilt- lifetime contract that includes a nightly menage with the president's wife and daughter.
Missouri- 10 years

A consistent run of 9-11 win seasons is exceptional for all but one or two programs nationally, based on where they are now, but after 3 to 5 seasons, it goes from exceptional to ordinary with fans wondering how to take the next step.

Well, South Carolina would have no idea. They've only won that many games a couple of times in their history.

My only change to your comment would be to make all the “10 years” teams be “10+ years”

At Auburn, that's totally dependent on what happens in the LSU, UGA, and Bama games. Gus averaged right around 8 wins in his tenure. But every time his seat would get white hot, he'd pull one out against the rivals.

Those games just hold more weight, rightly or not.

Scale:
1 year, fanbase is extremely unrealistic
2 year, fanbase expects championships
3 year, fanbase expects occasional championships
4 year, fanbase is ok with good teams with a breakout year once in a while
5 year, fanbase is good with mediocrity
6-10 year, fanbase has low expectations
Lifer, you'll see.

Alabama- 2 years
Auburn- 3 years
Arkansas- 4 years
LSU- 3 years
Miss State- 1 year
Ole Miss- 4 years
Texas A&M- 3 years

Florida- 3 years
Georgia- Lifer
South Carolina- 4-5 years
Tennessee- 1 year
Kentucky- 4-5 years
Vanderbilt- 6-10 years
Missouri- 5 years
