EsPN said Mac (aka:Max Jones and other names by some here) is the sniper of recent QBs on balls thrown over 30 yards in the air (58% completion rate) with 10 TDs and 1 INT from that range of in air passing.
He has outperformed Murray, Tua, and Burrow in the stat category.
Does he have the best deep ball in CFB history? IDK, but its not bad.
Upvote for yes, Downvote for Maybe.

His receivers help out a lot on those deep balls. Devonta Smith is usually 5-10 yards away from the nearest defender on a lot of them. He throws a good ball but I don't know if he has some sort of all-time arm.
Mac Jones' best physical traits are his ability to throw quickly from several different arm angles and be accurate with those throws. Mac was a tennis player as a kid (so was Drew Brees) and comes from a family of tennis players. He can make quick moves and maintains good footwork

We all thought Kyle Trask was great until we seen him without his top 3 receivers.

If Alabama wins out then Mac will have the best single season in history.

In all seriousness, his decision making is elite. He is not timid to throw a tight pass and trust his guy, but also makes the good decision quickly to advance the play without costing the team.
Even when his players have seperation, he stands out on his ability to hit them in stride with great placement that aids YAC.
He is down to only one truly elite WR in Smith, but has absolutely sustained pace with the best in CFB. Burrow and Tua may have had the 2 best WR Corps in CFB history to date and did not have the same performance in the deep ball stat.
His pedigree his less remarkable and we all fixate on the Pick 6 Iron Bowl loss (which was a pretty good game outside of those two INTs), but, at some point, he is owed his due.

Lol not even close. He won’t have beaten Burrow in any category, but believe what you want

Mac didn’t have any non conference cupcakes to pad his stats

6th best draft eligible QB according to the experts

What does that have to do with the question about his deep ball accuracy?

Passes over 30+ yards in the air is in no way an important stat at all. I also can’t find any numbers anywhere about Burrow for that stat (because that’s a made up stat) but I’m fairly certain he was pretty good at long balls

I didn't comment on its importance nor create the talking point.
You can thank ESPN halftime report crew of the Army-WVU game as I flipped through for the research and comment.
I'm certain Burrow was good as well at 30+ yd completion %; he just was a bit less proficient at that range with better WRs than Mac in 2020

It’s the answer to your question.

Mac has been great, wouldn’t surprise me if he’s been the best at that stat
But there’s a reason Burrow’s highlight reel was full of him moving in the pocket and making throws or huge runs for first downs
Burrow’s pocket presence was unreal

Should have walked the dog for you a bit or given you the BLUF version.
The OP clearly asks: Does he have the best deep ball in CFB history?

You get it, as usual, Sun God

One of the reasons I find it funny that LSU won the best OL award last season. Although don’t get me wrong they were pretty damn good.

He is an interesting mix of Joey Harrington, Ty Detmer, Danny Wuerffel, Jason White, and Andre Ware.
