agreed, but it doesn't mean a lessor overall group of talent and experience can't have better chemistry and results

Bama has played against more improved teams than LSU played last year.

LSU played and beat 5 top 10 teams and two more top 25 teams. No, Alabama didn’t play a more difficult slate. SEC defenses got worse this year, not better

The only conjecture about all this is that LSU had the greatest season in CFB history last season

And the non-LSU rooting folks in the media who basically echo'd the same shite are LSU trolls too?

I refuse to believe an actual human with a functioning brain is trying to act like this empty-stadium, opt-out, contract-tracing bullshite of a season could be compared to any other college football season before it.

I don’t know if people realize this but comparing teams in different years is pretty fruitless but comparing a team who played a normal season v. a COVID season is doubly fruitless.

2019 LSU had the best offense I’ve ever seen in college. 2020 Alabama is damn near close in terms of the metrics but losing Waddle mid-season is probably the slight difference between the two for me. LSU had 5 NFL starters at the skill positions in their base 3WR set. Losing Waddle cost Alabama some pop in that regard.

Agreed - this offense was in that GOAT discussion with Waddle. Without him (and Dickerson) we are scary good but not quite "no answer for it" good, I don't think.

We'll find out tommorow and Lord willing on the 11th.

Look, I don’t think this season got an asterisk because everyone had to deal with the circumstances. Some fared better than others. Still, it was a weird year and you’re not going to really get a good comparison between the two teams despite being the immediately proceeding season.

There’s no way you’re an Alabama fan. If you are, congratulations on being one of a few here with enough humility and self awareness to admit this.

Also agree. It's kind of its own thing, but to act like it doesn't count is silly.

It's just not really super comparative to other years.

It was the most difficult year in football ever, and the team that wins it all will be a team that had to endure it just like everyone else. Saban hit on it a bit in an interview recently.

Unless fricking Ohio St wins it all.

Most of the teams who have beaten Alabama in this era really earned it. I respect guys like Burrow and Watson. They’re impressive players. Less so for Bonix who probably replaces Garcia as the worst QB to be Alabama since the start of 2008. But hell, at least Garcia played out of his god damn mind in that game. lol.

If you ask merge empty stadiums kind of make it harder. Players get used to crowds making noise and screaming. Now all of a sudden it’s quite. Be easy for players to get the yips. Qb’s and kickers especially. As far as the Covid season goes this will be the most challenging season in CFB history. So many disruptions. A team starts to get ready for a game and it gets cancelled. Then they have to sit maybe another week. Sometimes it’s 2 or 3 weeks between games. Be easy for a team to lose its focus. If anything Covid has made this year harder not easier.

You 2 are a breath of fresh air.

And I agree. With Waddle its a different convo. I still think the COVID year separates the 2 but its definitely a closer call with that beast on the field along side Smith.

I don't think it seperates them as one is automatically worse, I just think it's difficult to compare them.

I do think it's pretty obvious our offense the first 4 weeks with a healthy Waddle was as scary and diverse as anybody in recent memory, including 2019 LSU (and I don't say that lightly as the 2019 LSU offense was the best I've ever seen).

Without Waddle we aren't quite at that level. Still very good, but not absolute unstoppable by anybody death machine.

agreed on all accounts. Its impossible to compare this season to ANY other. Which is why I said what I said in a previous thread. As a bama fan, it has to be somewhat frustrating seeing this juggernaut yall put on the field (that isnt even at full strength) plow through everyone. And knowing that if this were a normal year, they would definitely be in the discussion of GOAT. Granted I still have trouble imagining that there would be as many highly ranked teams on the schedule as 19 LSU went through but we'll never know. And even if there were, I think this bama team would probably win them all anyway

Maybe if we finish it off I'll feel that way, but with Clemson sitting out there (and a ND team I think is going to fight us to their death) I don't feel that way at all.

It's gonna be hard as hell to win it all. If we do, it'll be cool and I'll be happy. I'll leave the MAH GOAT trolls to others
