One person is killed every 56 minutes by a drunk driver in this country. You don't have be going a buck fifty to end a life.

He won’t get 26 years. He’ll get sentenced to 5-10 to get the press talking, then quietly get out on good behavior in 1-2 maybe less.

If he gets time of course he won’t serve all the time and would be paroled out. These cases can range from everything from significant pen time to even probation and a lot of it usually has to do with the victim’s family and their feelings about the disposition.

You might think that the victim’s family would want the book thrown at the offender but that isn’t always the case.

The dude should never be allowed to drive the rest of his life.

Saw a pic of the girl and her dog and it's even sadder. Looked like a good girl and a golden retriever.

15-20 years seems appropriate.

If I was that family of the woman killed, I would request they give him house arrest for 10 years and the only place he can go is to work (football field) and he would owe us 90% of his earnings. My reasoning is having him locked up won’t bring our loved one back and restitution won’t be able to be paid with him being in jail.

Hell no. My family member's lives aren't for sale. For no amount of money. The only pleasure or attention he deserves is that which can be found inside a Nevada State Prison for the rest of his life. I'm not sure giving him life will deter others from driving drunk. In fact, it probably won't. Him going to jail until he dies has nothing to do with deterrence and everything to do with punishment and society's safety from his reckless life choices.

What I hope for Henry Ruggs the manslaughterer is that he learns from this decision. That he honestly seeks in earnest the forgiveness from God and that woman's family. I hope he lives a long, sober life free of this horrible tragedy. I hope he finds peace and sanctuary from this nightmare over time. I hope he's able to be a shining example of the kind of forgiveness only God can give.

And I hope he does all of this as a ward of the NEVADA Department of Corrections.

Going 100 or going 150 is no different if you hit another car. That person in the other vehicle is going to die.

I am kind of surprised that cars are even allowed to go that fast. Not that I think that they shouldn't be able to I suppose, but with all of the nanny state legislation in our country, kind of hard to believe that there isn't a law against it.

I read he could potentially be looking at a max of 40 years...not 26.

His life is over...but at least he still has a life. Hope he gets the max.

If they stacked his charges and had them run consecutively, yeah, but there's no way they'll do that. They might present that as leverage for him to plea

Well if you watched the video of him and his girl after the murder you can see that they didn't give a **** about the girl and her dog burning to death right in front of them.

No, it's not reasonable at all. You're getting all emotional and reactive about this. The action itself would be MORE than deterred 4-5 years in jail.

Sounds like the emotional one is you. Do you even multi-quote? IMO, he should get 20 with a HARD 10 (no parole for ten years). Was it intentional? No, but with that level of recklessness, it could be CONSIDERED intentional.

The DA said 46 years in a presser with possible additional time dependent upon whether or not Ruggs is charged with having a loaded gun in the car

Bro, after that wreck, and being drunk, probably high and having broken bones, I doubt they even knew what fricking planet they were on.

The more info that comes out it makes Ruggs and his girlfriend look worse and worse. They did not give one shite about the person burning to death in a car. I only hope Ruggs and his girlfriend suffer the same fate one day.

I get that, but she seems pretty lucid. And, if that wasn't sobering enough at the time for Ruggs, he was much worse off than has been revealed.

A have no pity for him. The entire thing was both preventable and horribly tragic for all.

This isn't defending Ruggs, but he and his girlfriend were in the same wreck. They were in no position to be able to provide assistance. Ruggs was unconscious with his body hanging out of the car right after the wreck from pictures that have been released. Ruggs was also charged with causing serious injury to his girlfriend, so she was obviously banged up as well. The video showing them on the street was after the car was already completely engulfed in flames. There's nothing they nor anyone else could have done at that point, unless you thought a concussed, drunk, and injured Ruggs and presumably drunk and injured girlfriend were the right people to jump into a flaming vehicle. There's no information that has come out that has shown they didn't care what was going on. I don't know how much the care, but using that video as evidence doesn't prove anything either way. Hell, there were already emergency responders there walking around when that video was taken.
