But he didn’t maliciously & deliberately kill someone. 2nd degree murder carries a 25 year term in Nevada.

Yes. And DUI involving death in Nevada is 2-20. What's your point? I never said he should be charged with murder.

Also, remember he's charged with a second crime. It's up to the judge to decide if the sentences are consecutive or not.

Locking him up for 26 years while the sex trafficker is out in 5 doesn’t really benefit society or provide closure for the tragedy.

I don't disagree with that at all. I'm all for 25 to life imprisonment for sex trafficking, without parole.

Someone rotting their life away in prison wouldn't bring my mom back.

OP’s topic of Ruggs getting 26 years if convicted on all counts. OP’s assertion that 26 years isn’t enough time was what I was taking issue with.

ETA: No problem with discussing increasing sentences across the board for violent crimes, but with the current structure - comparative sentencing should matter, IMO.

It does however prevent reoffending (not that I think he should get that long)

So why not argue the sex trafficker should go to prison longer?
Not that Ruggs get out in less than 25 years.

Five years would likely do the same.

He should spend 156 years in prison.

The person was burned alive. Very reasonable to wonder if that is enough time.

sex traffickers should be executed; no need for jail time; especially if we are talking about children

and I agree, 26 years is too long

he should get 15 and serve 10

Girl lost her entire life at 23 in the most tragic way. He gets out at 32.

Doesn’t seem fair. Don’t give a damn if he meant to. He is absolutely responsible for his negligence and recklessness. 156 mph with that BAC. Absolutely no excuse. I hope he gets the max. Maybe it will deter some people and create some very little good.

Ask the family of the deceased.

All professional athletes (who probably have a tendency to make more bad decisions than the general population) will be watching to see what happens to Ruggs. The legal system doesn’t need to cut him any slack. Maybe the next dumbass will think twice before drinking and driving recklessly.

Absolutely. This is not just DUI accident trying to get home. He had twice the legal limit driving 156. Someone was going to die that night. So sorry for Tina Tintor.

And I hate repeating it but her family knows she was screaming as she was burned alive. Just so sad man.

When Hart arrived at the crash site, according to the arrest report, he heard screams coming from the RAV4. The driver was still alive, he told police, but she was pinned inside the SUV. None of the bystanders could pull her out.

Eventually, they had to back away as smoke and heat from flames choked the RAV4. Tintor and her dog died in the SUV, authorities said. She was 23.

13 or so years ago the wife of a prominent Jackson, MS old money guy killed two med students in a similar crash - she was drunk and speeding. Can’t remember her sentence, but I think she served two years.

a 23 year old girl BURNED TO DEATH , screaming for help, wedged in a car with her burning dog. THE most horrifying way to die. And you want to give him what a drug dealer gets. My GOD, Man.

People get less for 2nd degree murder. In some states they get less for rape. Count me out of the crowd that believes an awful decision that resulted in tragedy is the same as someone who intentionally ends someone else’s life or sexually assaults them.

It also doesnt bring anyone back. No doubt I would want the death penalty if it had been my loved one, but it doesn't change anything. No sense in wasting tax money housing him forever when he still could do something down the road. Doesn't mean it wasn't a terrible, terrible decision by him. He'll have to live with that forever too. It's just a terrible situation from top to bottom.

He should do 20 years. His actions led to unintentional murder.

That's your opinion.
If that's the sentence, how much of it will he actually serve?
It was a homicide of a completely innocent life, not an accident. Drunk and excessively speeding into anothers car is no different than a maniac shooting into a crowd at Mardi gras or a football game in my opinion.
