I think Max stays this season and grad transfers when he can.

He's a true junior and don't think he was on track to graduate early. I don't think he'd stick around 2 years not playing. Doesn't even make sense to wait anymore with the transfer rules now. He was honestly dumb for picking A&M in the first place with the QB competition he was 100% going to face

He had just transferred to an entirely new team with an entirely new staff and was learning an entirely new system.

It was also his first start ever.

and it also was against a ranked Miami team, not Kent State

As a backup you've already learned how camp goes, how the game weeks go, how to practice, etc particularly when you are coming from one good program to another. Yes you have to build chemistry but you've already learned how to do that and you are typically trying to build chemistry with new key pieces every year anyway.

Burrow also had never played under center in his life before he came to LSU. People forget LSU was still running an archaic LEs Miles offense Joe's first year. That's a pretty big change for a QB to pick up in a matter of weeks before the season starts. It's typically a big adjustment for pro QBs coming from college, but they at least have an entire offseason to work through their drops and mechanics.

That’s because their previous HC bolted and they lost a lot of talent. The cupboard was bare when Aranda got there.

I mean there was a talent loss but it wasn't a huge drop off.

247 Team Talent Composite - Baylor

2019: 668.90
2020: 642.13
2021: 659.21

I'd blame Covid on the record in 2020 more than anything, tough to make a coaching change with no offseason.

Rhule left the program in very good shape though.

Because if Aranda ends up being an elite coach you have your guy for the next 2 decades. Kelly would be one of the oldest head coaches to win their first national championship, if he does. I just don’t see him being the answer longer than 5 years.

I mean I think that's fine in this case.

Woodward absolutely had to get this hire right, I think he'd rather gamble on a 5 year solution that is as close to a sure thing as possible than a head coach with only two seasons under his belt.

The odds against Aranda being a two decade elite solution are astronomical, Kelly was as close to a sure thing as possible.

Worst case scenario, Kelly is "fixing" Orgeron's mess for the next guy.

Weigman is a piece of shite and isn’t a leader, he will cause issues in the locker room. It’s already happening.

He has more talent in his left nut than your entire QB room combined

Ridiculous.

My main point against Kelly is his lack of signature wins in over 10 years as a head coach at Notre dame. I can’t think of a good team he’s beaten. Maybe Clemson without Trevor Lawrence? That’s with Notre Dame being top 5 in guys in the NFL. He had no shortage of talent.

He has a proven history of not winning big games.

I mean if you look at those losses, they were usually against the elite teams of that season.

He simply never had the skill players at Notre Dame to compete with the elite teams, whether that's his fault or just luck of the draw, we'll find out.

"Big wins" are often about the matchup as much as anything, Jimbo had some "big wins" but they were usually against less talented teams.

The bowls don't bother me, Saban/Miles/Orgeron only had two bowl wins combined prior to coming to LSU, my only questions about Kelly have to do with the offensive scheme and the usage of the skill players within it.

We'll see how that pans out.

That’s why I’m taking a “Wait and see” approach. Johnson is a safer choice due to his experience and perceived football IQ. If King reduces his mistakes then he can win the starting job.

Is this code for he doesn't know how to recruit and develop QBs?

Kelly is highly involved with quarterbacks but he isn't the "quarterback developer" or "primary quarterback recruiter" on his staff.

Notre Dame offenses weren't able to stretch the field and often lacked the receivers and defensive backfields to really compete with the elite teams in the country, whether that is his fault or simply a product of being at Notre Dame, we will see.

Chase Claypool & Will Fuller were both excellent at stretching the field.

I doubt A&M’s offense will be really good, because your coach is really Jimbo Fisher.

Yea? How’s that going this season?

Note that you immediately pivoted to talking shite about Brian Kelly because you know DJ Durkin and rest of Jimbo’s staff suck arse and you won’t find a single metric that says otherwise. Gfy and enjoy the 7-5 season followed by a complete shitshow when the NCAA comes down on y’all and that awesome class transfers all over the SEC

You have to have multiple guys like that on the field at once to beat an elite team.

According to Kelly you are wrong

quote:

ARLINGTON, Texas -- After falling to Clemson 30-3 in the College Football Playoff semifinal at the Goodyear Cotton Bowl Classic, Notre Dame coach Brian Kelly stressed that "four big plays" were the difference and that the Irish's issues Saturday were "technical and tactical," not talent-based.

So is Kelly lying or are you just wrong?

That’s why he’s shitting all over A&M and Jimbo in recruiting right? I forgot that Woodward left y’all at the altar for daddy so y’all have a bizarre obsession with trying to prove that he somehow didn’t make a good hire when it was the biggest pull since Alabama hired Saban. I’m guessing guys like Matt House and Jamar Cain were bad hires too huh?

And since BK is so bad, how many times has Jimbo made the playoffs? How many times has Jimbo even won 10 games at A&M? He has DJ Durkin at DC, lazy moron shitbags like Tommie Robinson and Demeyune Craig at extremely important positions, and your program is somehow on the decline from Jimbo’s peak of 8-4.

The preseason #5 ranking is going to be A&M biggest accomplishment for the next 20 years while Jimbo destroys your culture and leaves you as a poor man’s Florida State while Daddy UT comes to the SEC and makes you run like from them again like the little figs you are.

Nice meltdown!!! Best one all day!!
