Me too. It's like his body was overtaken by somebody else that game.

He threw three interceptions vs powerhouse Kent state.

He's an equal opportunity passer, but favors the defender slightly.

Hopefully this year he'll have as many TD's as INTs and push that mighty 136 rating a little higher.

That would be a bit silly seeing as he isn't eligible to play anywhere until next season and King lasted about four quarters last season.

If King wins this year, I think Max stays this season and grad transfers when he can.

They won’t be remotely close to what they were under Elko, and if their offense doesn’t make major strides they’re losing 5+ games. Feel free to bookmark this, I’ve ignored the Aggot off-season hype train for about 10 years now and told everyone what was actually going to happen with Chavis, etc. and I’ve had responses like yours every time.

The stats aren’t there with Durkin. In 6 years of being a HC and DC, he’s had 3 defenses ranked outside of the top 100, he’s never ranked in the top 50 in scoring defense, and he’s averaged somewhere in the 80’s in both scoring defense and YPP over those 6 years.

What makes you believe DJ Durkin can build an elite defense when he’s been below average his entire career?

I had doubts (and still do) about Durkin as the replacement for Elko. My hope is that our talent on defense will overcome any coaching deficiencies. Not a good plan but it worked in 2019 for LSU with Orgeron and staff. Hope is never a good plan and when it goes south, it goes downhill in a hurry.

Aranda was still here in 2019. We had talent + one of the best defensive coaches in the country, it just took a while to come together.

Maybe it’s my bias over what recently happened with LSU but “talent overcoming coaching” was the thought process when we went from Aranda to Pelini and everyone saw how that worked out. We went from being ranked 40th overall and a lockdown defense through the last 5 games, to 128th in scoring and one of the worst defenses in CFB history even with Stingley and Ricks at CB and a lot of talent elsewhere.

I think the offenses right now are so technically advanced that there’s no amount of talent that can overcome mediocre coaching and game planning. We’ll see but that’s my take and I don’t see Durkin coming into the SEC and suddenly fielding a top 25 defense when he’s never done it before

I don't understand the 2019 Aranda comment. Aranda is/was an incredible coach. He should be the HC not pedo kelly right now.

But after striking out on Jimbo and others woody had to go get a "big" name to save face.

In his first full game, he was 21-33 for 292 yards passing, 2 TDs, and 3 ints (2 of which were tipped or batted balls; only one was a truly bad throw).

In Joe Burrows first full game (as s 4th year junior), he was 11-24 for 140 yards, 0 TDs, and 0 ints.

Ya but be mindful JB's first game was against an extremely tough Miami team that also lost to duke, boston college, virginia and georgia tech.

In the next week vs mighty SELA he managed a much more impressive 50% completion rate with 151 yards passing.

That's a really, really bad take.

In 2013, his defense was #15 nationally.
In 2014, his defense was #19.
In 2015, his defense was #6 nationally.

In 2016, he took the head coaching job at Maryland. Maryland finished with a defense ranked #74 (They had been 103 the year previous)
In 2017, Maryland's defense finished #120.

In his two years at Ole Miss, he took the defense from 118 in year one to 51 in year two. It's really borderline miraculous what he did at Ole Miss last year despite coaching opposite a Kiffin offense, where the defense has to defend and extras 3 or 4 possessions per game.

This isn't at least a little bit concerning?

Joe Burrow had just transferred to the team before fall camp.

Haynes had been at Texas A&M for two offseasons.

He was a fairly new head coach, not the DC. It's a mark against him, but it's mitigated by lots of other factors.

Sure. But it's a solid first start. It's not like was 11-24 for 140 yards against a 5 loss Miami team.

If you are using this logic than you really can't give him that much credit for the increase his first year. He wasn't DC either.

So you're saying evening though burrow was on his 4th year, he is mentally slow and that offseason is a perfect replacement for game reps?

Makes sense.

He had just transferred to an entirely new team with an entirely new staff and was learning an entirely new system.

It was also his first start ever.
