In 2009-2010 Saban asked if that was how folks wanted to play ball. Fast pace/hunh, not allow subs on defense, and apparently that's folks wanted. So, Saban adjusted his schemes and has continued to evolve with the times to take advantage of the opponent and put his team in position to compete at an elite level consistently.

So no health issues, right?

There have been some injuries as usual but nothing abnormal. Saban adjusted his recruiting specs and went to a much leaner, faster player that had the stamina to hold up and didn't need to sub so often.

Gus is such an unlikeable tpos. I think a lot of it has to do with his Arkansas roots.

This was more a shot at Bert. He was the main one crying all over about the dangers of the HUNH.

In reality, his offense was far more dangerous. Look at what happened to Swain, he was never the same. #prayersforswain

That and the photo of the UT player untying a Florida players shoes are two of the funniest SEC images. They crack me up every time.

Saban runs Gus' offense better than Gus now.

See that. That’s what Nick was complaining about. Now that’s your staple.

That's not playing fast.

And I'm not sure where you get "staple". It's just playing by the rules given.

last longer without needing subs

Are we still talking football here or about some perverted twisted "conditioning" Saban does?

Not even close. When Saban plays teams with equal or semi-equal talent, he gets his arse beat. The only thing that he has is superior talent.

Like in 2009?

Saban had multiple national championships at Alabama before bringing in all those #1 classes.

Saban never once seriously discussed it as safety issue...he always spoke about it more from a philosophical view.

I believe there was 1 press conference where something about safety came up, but it was in response to a question and was basically him asking out loud whether guys who are totally out of breath and sprinting back to the line and out of position are more likely to get injured or not.

But outside of that his entire thing was, as you said, philosophically it made football into an entirely different game. And since then, as with most things, coaches and referees and rules have kind of settled on a middle ground.

Saban has basically run through this whole damn conference in last decade, he is 79-9 in the SEC 10 yrs in the strongest conference in the country in the toughest division.

Such BS. The only time he got his arse kicked at Bama playing equal or superior talent was Clemson this past season; he lost some other games but that's the only one that was a total arse whuppin'...

Bama is 2-2 against Clemson the past 4 years and they've been deemed to have equal talent (Clemson was seeded #1 in the two games we won)...

Bama beat UF and Texas in '09; UF was deemed superior talent at that time and Texas was seen as an equal...

Bama beat LSU in the 2011 championship game, and they had at least equal talent...also beat 'em in '12 and '14 at their house when they had similar talent...

Bama beat UGA in 2008, 2012, 2015, 2017, and 2018 and they were considered to have equal/near equal talent in all of those years...

Bama beat AU (the defending SEC champs) in the Iron Bowl in '14 with a former reserve running back/safety playing QB...

In 2015, Bama played the toughest schedule in the nation and lost once...many of those teams had semi-equal talent and at least a few had equal or near-equal talent...

That isn't at all how it happened. saban tried to get the HUNH banned. He cited "health issues" for the players was the reason.
