Nick single-handedly got Gus a massive raise and extension less than two years ago.
Some people simply can't show any gratitude.

Alabama doesn't play fast other than occasionally after a 1st down. They just stop going to a huddle in order to get the main benefit - which is not allowing the defense to substitute to lock in favorable matchups.
Alabama last year ran an average of 69.7 plays per game.
In 2009, Alabama ran an average of 68.9 players per game.

Difference is:
2009 Alabama was playing ball control and having longer possessions
2018 Alabama was playing & scoring fast which lead to more possessions

Do you have any idea how long it takes to pick 1 out of 5 plays in the playbook?

Nick Saban’s greatness is the only reason Gus has a job right now. Put that in your pipe and smoke it

Where are all these fast snaps from Alabama?
Once again, it's basically only done occasionally after a 1st down. And personally I wish they would stop doing it because it seems like it rarely works out. Maybe it's confirmation bias, but it seems like we get a run for like 2 yards at best out of them.
It is true our offense is more explosive, but the only difference is instead of going to a huddle they go back to the line now. Which again, forces the defense to cover and doesn't allow them to substitute.

quote:In 2009-2010 Saban asked if that was how folks wanted to play ball. Fast pace/hunh, not allow subs on defense, and apparently that's folks wanted. So, Saban adjusted his schemes and has continued to evolve with the times to take advantage of the opponent and put his team in position to compete at an elite level consistently.

CGM has also adjusted his offensive scheme and it has ensured he'll consistently chalk up 4-5 loses every year. His offense has no identity and now he's the OC calling plays and working on game prep every week.

See that. That’s what Nick was complaining about. Now that’s your staple.

Saban's gonna install the whirlybird offense for this year's iron bowl.

So no health issues, right?

gumpinmizzou...LOL...that AU player falling down could use some acting lessons.

quote:He had to recruit a different specimen of player that had the size and stamina to withstand a faster pace. He completely retooled his defense so that "health issues" wouldn't be a problem. He brought in 5*'s that were leaner and faster and conditioned them so they could last longer without needing subs.
