Saban brought in Bama's first of those #1 classes the previous off-season.

That's probably before you became a fan though.

Pretty Sure that 2008 & 2009 Class was #1, Bama fan.

In 2009-2010 Saban asked if that was how folks wanted to play ball. Fast pace/hunh, not allow subs on defense, and apparently that's folks wanted.

That isn't at all how it happened. saban tried to get the HUNH banned. He cited "health issues" for the players was the reason.

2007 class was #12
2008 class was #3
2009 class was #3

Alabama's 2008 & 2009 team starters was majority 3/4 star kids recruited by Mike Shula with a few freshmen/sophomores from Saban's 2008/2009 classes sprinkled in (Julio, Ingram, Richardson, Barron, Hightower being the main 5). The majority of the kids in the 2008/2009 classes ended up being cogs in 2011/2012 (Upshaw, Dareus, Barrett Jones, Michael Williams, Dre, Nico, DJ Fluker, AJ, Lacy, Norwood, Carpenter, etc)

The talent, especially upperclassmen talent, in the 2008 & 2009 Florida/Alabama games was absolutely, without a doubt better on the Florida side.

LSU had the #1 class in 2009.

Saban had #3 in 2008 and 2009.

#4 in 2010

And the first #1 class he had was in 2011.

I don't disagree with that.

BUT that young talent was making plays, especially in 2009.

Julio, Ingram, Trent, Barron, Hightower all making plays.

Speaking of only accomplishing anything with talent...

What has Gus Malzhan done without Cam Newton? Cam Newton literally made that mans entire career.

Oh really? Saban was an 8-4 average coach before coming to Alabama. He did win the 1 NC at LSU. You'd figure if he was that great of a coach, he would have done more before getting all those top recruiting classes.

Are you 15? Do you remember the recruiting classes he put together at LSU?

He's clearly, without a doubt, been a much better (more consistent) coach at Alabama than he was at LSU.

Rivals had Bama at #1 in 2008.

I dunno what y'all are looking at. Scout was floundering, no one took ESPN's seriously, and 247 didn't exist yet.

Looked it up. The first was the 2011 class, and that was the year he got #2, I believe at Alabama. So "multiple" was overstating it, but not by too much.

I wonder if he was pulling $7MM a year with mediocrity like that?

Rival fans arguing that we were actually #1 in recruiting in 2008 feels like a bizarro world for anyone who lived through recruiting in 2008/2009.

They will create all sorts of random shite to diminish what Saban has done. Using his recruiting as the only reason his teams are well developed, prepared, and know how to execute the game plan at an elite level consistently.

I thought everyone knew 24/7 composite was the only one that mattered.
