I struggle with this statement. UGA played 4 teams that ended the season in the top 10, but only one team was decent? What is your definition of "decent".

UGA beat #9 Ole Miss by 35, #8 Mizzou by 9 and #6 FSU by 60. They lost to #5 Bama by 3 in a game where they missed a FG, had more turnovers, were penalized more and gave up 2 4th down conversions on drives that led to TD's.

It's fine if you think Michigan would beat UGA. But having to be a top 5 team to be considered "decent" is a really high bar.

I mentioned both Bama and Missou. Claiming FSU as a great team based on the circumstances is insincere on your part. I admittedly always forget about the Ole Miss game.

Still, there are always a handful of teams that should be competitive against the top 3-4 teams and you only played 1 of those and lost. Perhaps my use of the word "decent" was as insincere as your claiming FSU as a quality win.

Georgia fans will never get over losing to Bama in 2023. I owe Saban a beer.

So your view is there were four or less teams that "count" for UGA this year.

No offense... that's stupid. Just because UGA beat #6, #8 and #9 (two of them by blowout margins) doesn't make them not count.

UGA had a poor game against bama. They missed a 34 yard field goal (not a norm for a solid FG kicker). They gave up 2 fourth down conversions, either of which had they stopped would have erased a Bama TD. One of those was a risky 4th and 4 by Bama. They were penalized more times and for more yards than bama. They had a fumble that set Bama up on the UGA 11 that ended in a FG. They objectively had a mistake filled game and they ended up losing by 3.

Using that as your ONLY metric to judge UGA and not looking ot their wins over 3 other top 10 opponents is simply you trying to make UGA look worse, not objective measure of what UGA did on the field. Yes, the performance against Bama does count, but in the end it was a mistake filled game where UGA lost by a FG.

It counts. UGA didn't deserve to make the playoff just like Bama didsn't deserve a slot last year. But that doesn't change the fact that Bama would have been favored over TCU and Michigan last season and UGA would have been favored over every playoff team (including Bama) this season.

While the results that did happen kept Bama out last season and UGA out this season, it doesn't change the that Bama was probably better than TCU last year and UGA was probably better than Michigan this year.

Honestly, I'm cool with it. Having a couple recent national titles makes it sting less. Still stings as a missed opportunity, but with the new playoff setup it's not like it feels like it will be ages before UGA gets another chance.

2017 felt like that to be honest. We finally got to the playoff, made the championship game and lost in OT in a heartbreaker. It felt like it could be another 40 years before we'd get there again.

But with the new playoff, UGA will be in it almost every year. UGA would have made the 12 team playoff every season after Kirby Smart's first year in Athens had it existed.

I feel like it will be rare for UGA to miss the playoffs in the next decade. If we do we wouldn't have a chance of winning it anyway so there won't be any "what if" like there is this season.

So while there's a little regret and sting from a missed chance this season, overall it isn't like 2017.

I’m a Dawg, but I don’t know if UGA would’ve beaten Michigan. UGA’s first and second level of their defense was not very good this year. Rewatch the SECCG again, and watch that front toss Naz, and his teammates around. Michigan would have done the same thing!
Coaching/ scheme I feel like Kirby and Co took a step back against Bama and it cost them! Would they have made that same mistake in the playoffs.. I don’t know?

Georgia had a chance. If they beat Bama they would've been in the playoffs. The SECCG was essentially a play-in game. I do think if they played that game 3 times, Georgia wins it twice. But they only play once, and they didn't get it done.

If if’s and but’s were candy & nuts, we’d all have a Merry Christmas. As is, we have Harbaugh holding the natty trophy.
