For those who say GT and Bobby Dodd were too snobby to play the Mississippi schools, it wasn’t just us, and it was more of a money and logistics thing.

GT played OM twice during Dodds career(once in Atlanta, once in the Sugar Bowl). Alabama played them three times during the same timespan (never in MS). Georgia played them four times during those same 31 season (never in MS). LSU played them 29 times during that timespan. Three of those games were in Oxford. Auburn, prior to 1964 only played Miss 6x, never once entering MS.

Tech never played State during Dodd’s era. Bama played zero home games at Miss State from 63-85, AU zero from 55-77, Uga zero 56-75, Lsu zero from 26-81, UT zero from 32-86. It was just a different era, back then coaches got a % of the money from the number of fans thru the gates at the game so it made sense (to them at least) for both teams to play at the largest stadiums available, also to plan matchups with rivals that generated the most fan interest.

It's amazng to me that Auburn played Tech over 50 straight games in Atlanta. It wasn't until 1960 that the rivalry became a true home and home series. Maybe Tech was still pissed about the greased railroad tracks.

UGA can thank them for leaving. GaTech would be a power if they had stayed.

Would like to see them back in SEC.

Part of Georgia Tech not being in the SEC can be traced back to bad blood between Alabama and Georgia Tech, or more specifically between Pepper Rodgers and Bear Bryant.

Your whole post is just some auNeck bullshite that circulated around ITAT(Inside the auburn tigers) at different points in time and you swallowed it because you are yourself an auNeck.

Bryant wanted GT to remain in SEC

quote:

Dodd wanted the SEC to allow fewer signees per recruiting class and had an ardent ally in Tech president Edwin Harrison. Tech almost got the 140 Rule changed at the 1963 SEC winter meetings, but Alabama president Frank Rose, breaking with the stated wishes of Crimson Tide coach Bear Bryant, voted to keep it.

Also from the AJC (not Inside the Auburn Tigers) Pepper Rodgers said he talked to Bear Bryant on the field at a game where they were coaching against each other and said it was an honor to coach against him. The Bear replied, “That is bull$hit”.

So no bad blood between them…?

And Smokey you are a first class idiot , I plan to not reply to any more of your lies and name calling, because that is all it seems you are capable of.

You mean Bobby Dodd, right? Rodgers wouldn’t coach at Tech for another decade.

Ga Tech and UCLA could be good in football every year if they cared enough.

No, it's not. I don't hate Atlanta but nobody considers Atlanta as a destination city. Miami, Los Angeles, NYC, Los Vegas, Boston, San Francisco, Chicago, and many more, are all above Atlanta.

Being a massive airline hub is meaningless. Few people that have to go through Hartsfield are going to Atlanta, they go there to change planes to leave Atlanta.

Ole Miss is pretty good right now.

They haven’t won any kind of championship since the early 1960s. No national championships and not even a single SEC championship during that time frame. You can’t claim to be good until you break that 60-year streak of futility.
