They finally got some with a real connection to Ole Miss.. unlike when Katy Perry was the guest picker. I forgot who was the guest picker in 2021

He goes to a bunch of Ole Miss basketball games. He grew up an Ole Miss fan (he's from the Delta). He also has an honorary degree from Ole Miss.

Lane himself was the guest picker.
For what it's worth, I believe the host school is responsible for finding the guest picker, not ESPN. We had someone lined up in 2021 (can't remember who, I think a country musician) but they had to back out last second due to an illness so Lane sat in himself.
