I realize he had lots of success at UCF but I just think it's bad business to hire one of your former players. It makes separation so much more difficult. Many have worked out but plenty haven't. Coming from a UCF that had no expectations and then going undefeated was huge but a program with no expectations to Nebraska who has a rich a heritage as any program is tons of pressure. Unless NIL helps, Nebraska will never be able to recruit the was they did in the hay days.

2-3 Sunbelt coaches might get a look.

Nebraska is damaged goods, but I still say with their tradition and status there's no reason they shouldn't be competitive. If Wisconsin and Iowa can be decent most seasons, Nebraska definitely should be able to. At this point those fans will fall in love with a coach that can just reach bowl eligibility regularly.

But they decided to get a jump on Auburn in the coaching search.

The best part about this is that his buyout would have dropped in 20 days. Nebraska wanted to send the message that badly

or afraid he'd win the games between now and then and make this harder to do

Have no doubt they’re going to go after Stoops.

Really doubt he leaves for them though.

Nebraska is now a 'bowl eligible' ceiling team

Any coach that heads there from the SEC is an idiot

Lol Trev Alberts.

I still can't believe this guy runs a major program.

He's like the AD equivalent of Chet from Weird Science.

He shouldn't. Why would he leave a good situation for another rebuild?

Great idea. He'd probably be willing
to pick up a few more bucks.

Lol frick Trev Alberts. Yes I’m still salty 20 years later.

Also I assume they will pull out all the stops for Kiffin. I’m not naive enough to say they can’t get him, they will throw everything at him and he has a lot of ties there. But surely he knows it would all but kill his career.

Iowa had the benefit of having two head coaches the last 40 years. Nebraska wrongfully fired Frank Solich and just never were the same after.

They have the best fans. Lose and they still sell out. I got to see a game in Lincoln last year. I recommend it as a bucket list checkoff

Nobody willing to take the Nebraska job can win there. UCF is a better job at this point. Had he stayed there, he would've absolutely made the playoffs by now. They would've been the first non-power 5 school to make it, not Cincinnati.
Nebraska isn't going to the playoffs. Ever.
